Owner description: Gordon River Cruises is an award winning wilderness experience in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Departing from Strahan on Tasmania's west coast, Gordon River Cruises offers half day cruises on the Gordon River aboard its sleek, purpose built tour vessel, Spirit of the Wild. Spirit of the Wild was purpose-built in Hobart, especially for the Gordon River. She is an impressive 33m catamaran, fitted with a unique hybrid propulsion system that allows you to cruise the wilds of the Gordon River under electric motors that push Spirit of the Wild along very, very quietly. There is no better way to appreciate the remarkable tranquility of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed place than aboard Spirit of the Wild. Our dedicated on guides take you through western Tasmania's rugged natural and human history, while new character-based interpretation videos take you back in time to hear tales of hardship and heroics. A beautiful lunch is included in your Gordon River Cruise.

We opted for the window seats on the full day trip @ $150.
The trip was very scenic and interesting. It was fabulous to be able to move around the boat and view the sights from the outside decks.
The commentary by Suze was great. Her voice was easy to listen to.
Captain Pete was very friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him. He did a great job.
We also loved the visit to Sarah Island. Ingrid was a fabulous guide and gave us a wonderfully informative tour of the island.
Lunch was delicious, with plenty of food available.
It was a lovely trip. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately we could not get on the captains deck but down below was excellent with a great crew, good lunch and a nice bar.
We boarded in pouring rain with lasted some time but were comfortable in our seats listening to the various talks.
The rain cleared before we arrived at Sara Island that is the best part of the trip. The commentary was by a guy who had both a wonderfull knowledge and great presentation.
This is a must do when in Strahan.

I hummed and haa’d before deciding to commit to this trip and I’m so pleased I made the decision to go in the end. It was truly fabulous.
The boat ride was just perfect. We got the captains upper deck- outside seats and it was completely worth the extra money. By the time we’d drunk the wine and beer and eaten the amazing food, the extra money we spent on the “first class” tickets, paid for themselves. Downstairs you’ll pay less for your ticket but then you need to pay for everything else except your lunch AND there are kids downstairs being kids.
Sarah Island was a real highlight. I didn’t realise I was interested in convict history until I did that walk.
Back on the boat we were taken care of so well. All of our wants were catered for and the facilities were absolutely top notch. You should definitely book this trip.

Had friends rave about this trip so we had to book. The weather was rainy, cold and windy but we still had an interesting time for most of the trip . The staff did their best to keep the day going, were very friendly and knowledgeable. lunch was your usual buffet food for this type of tourist thing. Ham, chicken, salmon and salad, there was plenty of it. Was a bit hard to eat on the little airplane style trays though. Hard to predict the weather but you'd definitely get more out of it on a nice day.

Hi Stacy,

Thanks for your review of the Gordon River Cruise. Unfortunately the weather doesn't always behave but we like to think that to see this amazing place in moody weather adds an element that allows us to look back on the hardships that were endured by the people who shaped it. We're now proud to say that a new cruise vessel has been launched, with an enhanced F&B experience.

Best regards and we hope to see you in Strahan again.
