Description: The Golden Lamb is recognized as the oldest continuously operating business in the State of Ohio. On December 23, 1803, Jonas Seaman spent $4 for a license to operate a "house of Public Entertainment." The Golden Lamb got its name due to the fact that many early pioneers could not read, so giving a business a name that could be easily drawn and recognized, such as the Black Horse or Golden Lamb, was a necessity. The brick building where the Golden Lamb moved to and currently resides was built in 1815. The original building was a two story structure located where our lobby area and Dickens dining room currently stand. In 1844 a third story was added. Shortly after, in 1854 a three story wing was added which is where our Shaker and Buckeye room dining rooms currently stand. In 1878, a fourth story was added to accomodate the workers who would bring the railroad to Lebanon. The gift shop and Black Horse Tavern were added to the structure in 1964.The Golden Lamb was visited by so many prominent guests in the early 1800's because it was located halfway between Cincinnati and the National Road (U.S. 40). Robert H. Jones' ownership of the property beginning in 1926 marked the transformation of the old hotel into the great attraction and marvelous restaurant it is today. Under their guidance, the inn's great reputation became well known throughout the country. Their ownership also marked the restoration of the hotel to its original name, The Golden Lamb.

My past experiences with the Golden Lamb were dinner meals but today we had lunch there. My wife and I found the lunch dining experience to be every bit as outstanding as our previous dinners have been. The service was friendly, welcoming, prompt, and very attentive. As always, the food was just incredible. I had the warm turkey sandwich and it was out of this world--juicy and bursting with unique flavor. It is very creative and unusual and must be experienced to fully appreciate. My wife had a burger, which was a delicious monster. Of course, the surroundings at the Golden Lamb are charming, historic, and fun. In terms of cost, we felt we received excellent value for the dollar. This is one of our favorite places to dine.

Had lunch on Sunday at noon! My wife had chicken and I had the turkey dinner Both were excellent. The chicken was tender, not chewy and the turkey was very tender and well prepared. They give you plenty of both, unless you have the appetite of a bear. The service was excellent and the restaurant is very clean and well maintained for its age.
We have gone to the Lamb for over 40 years, in the recent past, two to three years ago the food and service has been terrible. They couldn’t even make a hamburger, but it’s all changed now, and for the much better.
If you haven’t tried the Lamb in a while, try it now, I’m sure you will love it!

Just wrapped up a delightful brunch at the Golden Lamb. We've lived within 15 minutes of this famed establishment for 20 years, but never made it a priority to visit. Mistake on our part.

First of all, this is one of those 4.5 star experiences. I just couldn't go all the way to five starts, but 4 seems like a bit of a disservice.

The key is to embrace the history and the experience. While the food is excellent, it is really the story that this establishment holds that makes it so memorable.

First of all, don't expect an ultra formal setting...that's just not what the Golden Lamb is all about. The decor is true to its early 19th century roots - after all, this is the longest operating establishment in the state of Ohio.

The menu selection has classic favorites but also regional specialties (sauerkraut balls, the sticky burger, lots of pork!!). We had a traditional brunch with a a Kentucky Mule and Mimosa to accompany the tasty meal.

Here's the big must do....before or after dinner, go upstairs and explore the historic inn rooms that have hosted cultural icons such as Ulysses S Grant, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Ronald Reagan, and many more. It's tastefully restored and a real treat to top off your Golden Lamb experience.

This is the place we take our "foodie" out of town visitors. Any History buffs will be enchanted. The main dining rooms will be the subject of this review. There is also a little bar with food in the back. The menu is not varied but everything is really good. You can bring anyone here (Kids, Business etc.) but don't expect it to be "Applebee's." If you go during the day, it is a perfect place to talk business. The dining rooms have a rustic Victorian feel and the whole place makes you think of stagecoach days. Make sure to try the relish tray!

Atmosphere was that of a high class restaurant. Service was excellent. Everyone has salads with a dressing that put it over the top. 2 had prime rib that was ok but lacking alot of flavor. On the other hand,I had a filet mignon that was good and so tender. Rolls came with the meal. I also had a cobbler for dessert that was also very good.
