Ok, this review will have good and bad in it. Let's start with the positive. This cabin accommodated 8 adults. There were 3 children as well, but they slept on items we brought. Cabin was big, initial impression cabin was nice inside, a nice blacony to enjoy the view overlooking the back yard and pond, basement is a big game room with 2 beds, washer and dryer, theatre area, and hotbox. Cabin also had a pool and hot tub. Staff (Matt the maintenance guy and Kendra the owner)was nice and brought us a picnic table when we asked about getting one.
Negatives.... The air conditioning unit really made the basement Kool while the rest of the house was struggling to keep up. Down stairs was around 60 degrees while the upstairs was around 80 degrees. Had to drive a half hour to buy fans for the house.
The home theatre system looked great and dish network was on the television, but the DVD player did not work. I called Kendra, the owner and she did not answer. Replied 2 hours later with no solution.
The pool table had been broken and poorly repaired. We still played and had fun but by no means was the table level.
The hot tub was clean to look at and the water was up to temp but did not try to use do to the temp outside.
Upstairs there was a 2 person reclining couch. It was really nice. The only problem was when you tried to lean back the couch would go crashing to the floor. We did not know this when my dad was holding my infant daughter and sat down and tried to recline hitting the floor. This is not acceptable!!
The other couch was great and had no problems.
In one of the bedrooms the mattress needs replaced. Not just nitpicking, the springs are ready to be retired really noisy and uncomfortable. Had to go buy memory foam just for that bed. Others arecomfortable)
This is the worst place you could stay if going to hocking hills. First it's in vinton county not hocking hills. You will drive 30 miles to get to any cave to hike. It's right on a busy highway. You can hear every car that passes. The kitchen is awful the cabinets are not attached to the wall the dishwasher is not attached. The fridge leaks but they know about it and left a note on the fridge and brought me a mop. The bathroom is awful the toilet is broken and the shower leaks to the basement. They have a bucket in the basement to collect the water. The front bedroom has writing all over the walls. The back bedroom has no night stands. No bedroom has closet doors. The basement is a joke. All of the balls roll to the middle of the pool table. There are two twin beds in the basement that I wouldn't even let my dog sleep on. The entertainment area is old couches with three twin sheets hung from the floor joists. It is not a finished basement by and means. They cut thru a floor joists for plumbing. Don't use the hot tub it was filthy. There are broken windows gnats flies wood roaches. They brought me a fly strip and raid. I kept emailing a person named Beth who I believe is their management person. The cabin is actually owned by peck enterprises. Kendra peck is the registered agent. I repeat do not stay here. I have a bunch of pictures.
Very beautiful cabin had a great time very romantic Sitting on porch listening to Sounds of nature very nice staff felt like home
I had booked this cabin on a website called hocking hills cabins. The website showed great pictures and had great information. Unfortunately they do not tell you the location/address of the house until closer to your travel date. After finding the address I googled and found the other review on tripadvisor, which caused me to go into my vacation with a very negative mindset. I was, however, pleasantly surprised by the cabin.
It did need some love, but what cabin doesn't!? Going in we had to sweep the floors which were visibly dirty with grass blades, dirt, and dust bunnies but I normally do this in all rentals so it didn't bother me. It needs some paint and patching here & there and there were nails sticking out on the back deck but we just used this as a teaching lesson for the little one with us. There was a note on the table when we arrived noting the pool would be getting cleaned the following day and that the freezer leaks when it is opened and closed too much. The pool didn't get cleaned the next day but it didn't need it too badly and the heads up on the freezer was very welcomed! Most of the dishes were dirty and one of the pans we used to cook had actual cooked eggs still in the pan while in the cupboard. We pre wash our dishes before using them in rentals regardless so this also did not bother us. One of the bedrooms had a bed so squeaky it was not possible to sleep on or even touch without making so much noise it woke the rest of the house up, so one person had to sleep on the couch, which was comfortable so not a problem. The tv/satellite didn't work but that did not bother us. There is a wide variety of movies and we were on vacation so tv wasn't a high priority.
The address is technically McArthur, Ohio. This really bothered me, until we got there. Ash Cave and Cedar Falls were only 12 minutes away. Old Man's cave was only minutes farther. We went into Logan a few times and those trips were no more than 30 minutes away.
The pool was great and this is one of the only cabins in hocking hills with a pool. Many floaties were supplied! The fire pit is amazing!! We had fires where we roasted s'mores, hot dogs, and made puggie pies almost every night! The swing is awesome! It is covered in bird droppings but we just covered it with towels! The best part is the view off the back deck. It is unbeatable and perfect to relax to every night and wake up to every morning. The pond was fun to walk around and enjoy nature with.
Do I wish some things were better taken care of, a little nicer, and given a little more attention to detail, yes. However this cabin has a lot of character, a great location, and my family made some amazing memories here.
As much as I would like to tell you about a great time at your "Gone Fishing" cabin, there was so much more disappointment. First of all, it states the cabin is located in Hocking, but was actually located in Vinton county, which is not in the vicinity of Hocking Hills. It states that the pool was "New for 2017" yet upon arrival, pool did not look new. The pool was dirty, and remained dirty all 3 days of our stay. The pool was in the process of being refilled and the filtration system for the pump was not even plugged in.
Next, the hot tub was also dirty. Clumps of hair were seen floating by the filter area and when the jets were turned on, stuff came up from the bottom. The "so-called pond" was not swimmable or fishable, due to all the algae on the top of it. Then, our bed linens were dirty, with clumps of what looked like dog hair, on them. We also had items fall off of the wall during our first night stay while we are all sleeping. These items were held up by plastic 3M hooks. The grill we wanted to use on our last night there, was knocked over by the guy cutting the grass and was unusable.
Finally, to top our mini getaway, one of the pool rules is to shower before getting into the pool, yet the guy cutting the grass got into the pool right after to cutting the grass to clean it. Thus causing us to leave a night before our stay was over. This was part of my daughters birthday gift from us and she was looking forward to spending time away and being able to swim in the process. My family and I were very disappointed for this mediocre run of a cabin.
DO NOT BOTHER WASTING YOUR TIME WITH THIS CABIN OR ANY OTHER THAT MAY BE RUN BY THE CONTACT PERSON (or people)!!
