“Very relaxing getaway.”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

This was our second year enjoying spring break at Deer Creek. Great getaway that is so close to Columbus. Enjoyed the hiking. The lodge lobby with it's fireplace and rocking chairs is just so inviting and relaxing. The Stay4As program is great for families. Definitely will be back there again.

We stayed at the lodge for three nights because we were visiting family. I was traveling with my teenage grandson and he had a great time. It turned out to be the perfect place for us to stay with all my family living close by. The staff that was on duty was more than helpful and friendly. The gift shop was only open on the week-end and food service was slow but the atmosphere is very relaxed. I'm advising other family that live out of state to stay there when they visit and we'll be back too.

I have stayed at other State Park Lodges, and this one was really nice. It was just an overnight, but we wished we'd stayed longer. It's very close to Columbus, and close to where I live and we'll be back.

We rented Cabin 4 (#3 had a better view) and the place was not perfect, but nice. It seemed under staffed but everyone, just every employee seemed to be nicer and courteous every time. Our fire pit was not clean, neither the BBQ, but we called the Lodge and a gentleman did it in a minute call. The toilet was leaking water to the bowl but another handyman came and fixed it. The stove's big grill was always in high and the golf course was not in the best conditions.

But if you put those things in perspective and try to compare these facilities with a 5 star property, those problems were peanuts. Upon check out I mentioned the things to the sweet Jamaican lady at the front desk, and she gave us a 25% discount. I could go back any day.

I'm glad we accepted Deer Creeks offer to visit. We had a great renovated room overlooking the lake. The staff that was on duty was more than helpful and friendly. My only suggestion would be to have someone in and out of the pool area more often.

We have come to Deer creek for the past seven years on spring break, after this visit we won't be back!
We arrived in our favorite cabin to discover a full fire pit (left-over ashes and debris) an entire section of screen missing from the porch and ants in our bedroom...
We were told upon calling the front desk that they were under staffed, resulting in us moving our own fire ring and waiting hours for a maintainence man to fix the screen and leave a bottle of ant spray.
Later, upon taking the kids to the pool in the lodge to swim there was fecal matter on the bottom of the pool floor!!! (which my 13 yr old discovered....YUCK) we came back to the game room later and though it seemed to be removed, I have a hard time believing the bacteria was In such a small window of time...(it was only two hours later) and the pool was full of kids swimming...
We stayed five days, did not receive room service even once and when we needed fresh towels we had to drive to the lodge to get them ourselves.
The spa by the pool was once a nice place for my husband and I to relax while keeping an eye on the kiddos....the water was Luke-warm...hot- tubs are suppose to be just that...HOT...
Sadly, we will be seeking a new place to make our spring break memories...shame on you Deer Creek for not maintaining what was once a great place.

We enjoyed Deer Creek resort very much. Great rooms have amenities like TV, desks, fridge, extra sink, comfortable bedding and very clean. We spent the evening swimming in the heated pool and hot tub. In the evening we played pool and ate a large pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, pineapple and extra cheese from the restaurant. There is a cotton candy machine outside the restaurant. The price was very good compared to the Columbus hotel market for similar lodging. There is lots of lounge space that overlooks the lake. We are planning another trip at the end of March.
