My husband and I just returned from a weekend getaway to the Cherokee Casino Resort. The hotel is pretty new and the rooms were very nice. It was very nicely decorated and comfortable. We were disappointed though in that there was no hot water to take showers with in the morning. The Casino area was extremely smoky. There is a non-smoking area in the casino, however you must walk throught the smoking area from the hotel to get there. Also, people ignored all of the non-smoking signs taped to the slots in the non-smoking area and continued to light up. Several times we had to ask the staff to ask people to put out their cigarettes. We also purchased frozen drinks in the non-smoking casino and walked all over the place with our drinks until we entered the smoking area and were asked by a security guard where we got our drinks from. When we told him, he said drinks were not allowed on the casino floor and to dispose of them. This rule was NOT posted ANYWHERE. We also saw many other patrons drinking in the casino area. We ate all of our meals at the Wild Potato Buffet, it was good except we could have used a steak knife for the eggs benedict, the muffins were hard as rocks. There is a steak restaurant, McGills, very pricey, so we stayed away from there. The Smokehouse restaurant is smack dab in between the smoking and non-smoking areas. There is a piano bar located off the hotel lobby, it looked very nice and the pool area was also very nice. There was an indoor and outdoor pool with whirlpool with very plush lounge chairs. There is also a fitness center that was above average. All in all, we would return if we were smokers, but we just can't get past the OVERWHELMING amount of smoke. If you are a smoker then you will really enjoy this resort/casino.
