“Very Nice RV Park-Cabin Rentals”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

My Wife and I just bought our 1st Toy Hauler Travel Trailer and have been wanting to visit this part of Oklahoma for many years. I looked on-line and found this place and called to reserve a spot. The owner took my info and never asked for a dime up front. We were going to arive late in the evening and and since this was my 1st trip pulling a 25' trailer, it took longer to get there than we expected. I called him about 7:30 pm and told him we would not get there till a little after 10pm and asked if that was too late and if so we could stop and find a place to park for the night and just arive there in the morning instead. He said "not a problem at all" come on till you get here.

We arived there about 10:15 pm and it was dark as it could be. The owner came to the Office in his golf cart and escorted us to our spot and shined his headlights for us and even helped us set up.

He even offered advice on things like making the awning "lean" towards the rear of the camper so when it rains we won't wind up with a 2nd story swimming pool and several hundred dollars in dammage. The advice was very much appreciated. He also offered advice on the best places and times to ride like the "Indian Hwy" and places to get good grub.

He has a very nice place in the center of the Telimena Scenic Byway and is very well kept. There was a bathroom/bathhouse that was very nice and very clean. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and do plan on going back during the fall colors and will stay here again.

Over Easter weekend, my significant other and I stayed in the "small" cabin, which has a queen bed, a bunk bed (great for kids, but that doesn't apply to us), a restroom with shower only, a sink, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, TV, and breakfast table/stools.

Although the cabin is small, it's laid out well, and very comfy. The TV only gets a handful (one handful) of channels, but that's fine -- who is going to be watching much TV here with so much to do outdoors? The bathroom is tight, but functional. The rocking chairs on the front porch are a nice touch. There's a picnic table outside and a charcoal grill (but we brought our own grill).

The place also has wifi internet access, but the only downside is that their download capacity is capped -- if they exceed it for the day, their provider literally flips the switch off. This happened the second night we were there. No big deal, as we were not there for the internet, but be aware that this could happen.

Dave Lapham and his daughter (whose name I didn't catch) were great hosts, and we'll definitely stay here again. There is all kinds of day hiking around the area, and it's nice to wind down by grilling a steak and retiring to one's cabin!

You could stay at the generic Comfort Inn in Idabel for about the price of this place, but why would you do that?

Visit the Big Cedar website and look at these quaint cabins. Our hosts Darrell and Dianna were welcoming and helpful. The cabin was well appointed including rocking chairs on the verandah. Big Cedar is in the middle of a beautiful area, with rivers, valleys and scenic drives through mountain ranges. We enjoyed the town of Meena and the drive from Hot Springs Arkansas to Big Cedar in Oklahoma.
