It always surprises us when a T-Towner doesn't recognize the name Harden when talking best burgers in town. Harden's Hamburgers has been around since 1939 and just recently was handed over to it's third owner. My husband and I started going to Harden's when it was located just East of Sheridan on 15th Street and still the original owners. We were young twenty-somethings and used to be tickled that it was always packed with a bunch of seniors. We now realize these were the smart ol' guys and gals who had been eating here since it's early days. They knew the best. No need to change.
We feel that way now some 25 years later. We have other burger joints we like but this is the place we tell people about and we take out-of-towners. The location changed some years ago to 4th and Sheridan but that's about all that has changed. The latest owners have added beer to the menu and have some great daily specials on draft.
We only get the hamburger and fries. Juicy, drippy burger with onions, mustard and pickle on a perfectly steamed bun. You can get cheese, lettuce, tomato on request - they'll ask you how you want it. We have been sampling their chili lately by getting a little bowl and sharing, dipping our fries in it or burger. Really good, too. The owner told us it's his mother's recipe. It's got a nice little heat to it. You can also order a chili-burger.
The decor and ambiance has remained the same all of these years even through the building changes. Vintage memorobilia on the walls and throughout. They have a really impressive and extensive selection at this casual juke type of joint. You can look around while you wait for your order. Give them a little time as everything is cooked to order.
