Ecola State Park stretches along 9 miles of stunning Oregon coastline. The narrow entrance road snakes through the spruce forest, eventually reaching the parking lot where you will need to pay $5 for a day pass. Ecola’s hiking trails offer cliff side ocean views including Tillamook Rock Light a long abandoned lighthouse. Clarke (of Lewis and Clarke fame) described the vista as “… the grandest and most pleasing prospects which my eyes ever surveyed…” We were there in Jan 2018 and it was 62f and sunny - amazing. One trail was closed due to a mud slide so be prepared to be flexible in your plans.

Ecola State Park is a beautiful area just north of Cannon Beach. If you want a nice hike through some sections of old growth forest take the Clatsop Trail north from Indian Beach up to the hiker's camp then return along the coast back down to Indian Beach. We also did the section from Ecola Point to Indian Beach that is listed as closed (major washout) but found we were able to go off trail to get down to the beach.

We visited in search of whales that had been seen the day before but missed them. It’s a beautiful park to drive through (we didn’t hike as many trails were closed from land slides). Day pass was only $5 . The Pioneer Beach was a fun stop to watch surfers, see a small waterfall and lovely sea stacks. We were hoping the starfish were back in the tide pools but sadly they are still gone. Well worth a stop if you’re near Cannon Beach .

Heaven on Earth! A must see! The drive there is not bad at all! I traveled 2,500 miles in order to see it.

Ecola State Park was a highlight of our trip to Northern Oregon. There were spectacular views of the ocean from different vantage points along our hike!! Hikes take you through dense forest area where you come across little creeks and moss covered trees. It was so serene. There were also park benches for picnics and restrooms.
