We visited this restaurant based on Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. The meals were hearty and everything tasted very homemade. They had a promo where if you paid cash for your meal, they gave you a free dessert. The dessert was a surprisingly light and tasty (homemade) chocolate cake. Also, the Bistro served lots of great beers, including a really good root beer. Service was very good.

What's not to like. German food is home food. Beef with hunter gravy - mashed potatoes - cabbage - good beer. The $12.00 lunch menu is a value menu. You can get brats, schnitzel, sauerbraten, vegetarian options, sandwiches and seafood. German - polish-czech beer are available here. If you spend $25, and pay cash, you get one free dessert.
I had the sauerbraten lunch which comes with hunter's gravy, mashed potatoes and red sweet cabbage and a slab (yes, slab) of brown German bread. The beers are a tad spendy at $7.50 for a tap pint. I'm used to $5.00 for the same. I had Pilsner and Paulander pints - delish.
Blue Heron also offers a nightly happy hour 3-5 pm with $5.00 appetizers.
The desserts look wonderful - next time.
I will go back to this restaurant - again, and again, and again. Everything on the menu is appealing.

Great find in the middle of Coos Bay. Very short walk from the Best Western hotel. Good and eclectic wine list. We shared the fondue as a starter. excellent.
Normally, we each try something different for our main meal, just in case one of them isn't good but this time we both ordered the vispannetje - fisherman's stew. It was absolutely great and we had enough left over for lunch the next day. highly recommended - both the restaurant and that particular dish.
Also, there is a book for sale written by the previous owner - it's really worth buying too.

So after staying at a motel is coos bay the front desk told us we had to check out the Blue heron for brunch which they only do on Sundays as it is all homemade and original . So we decided to take her advice and go , upon arrival we noticed how beautiful and dressed up the little restaurant was very very Bavarian inside and out wonderfully done! We were promptly greeted by the staff and were told that it would be a 5 min wait and they were very busy as Sundays usually are for them . So we waited and boy was it worth it ! Homemade hollandaise sauce REAL hollandaise sauce no body does that it was amazing I had my benedict over there homemade smoked salmon it was wonderful not salty at all like the store bought salmon. My wife had the biscuits and gravy and again blown away fresh cut fruit homemade biscuits and gravy with real chunks of sausage not tiny morsels like other breakfast places or doctored up can gravy no sirs this was the real deal very happy and very RARE find such a gem please move back home to Arizona with us thank you !
