“It is rather awful to see contrast of slimy tubs and graffiti amid a beautiful natural setting , toilet paper on the trail says”
Review of Bagby Hot Springs

Reviewed September 27, 2012 via mobile

We went to Bagsby Hot Springs forewarned, but the reality makes your skin crawl. A mothers worst nightmare, in a beautiful place. Water was too hot to get into, tubs too icky to want to. Green slime and toilet paper dropped on thd trail tells thd tale of unsanitary conditions. Hippie dirt at it"s finest. We walked on up the trail to the delightful little falls, that redeemed the easy hike, a cleaner, quieter place for a snack. It was a beautiful fall day, not at all crowded, but I will use the hot tub at home.

I was a bit worried at first going to Bagay hot springs because of the negative reports I had read about car break ins and harassment by drunks.

We arrived mid day Saturday, and had plenty of parking space. at the campsite is a parking lot attendant charging $5 a person. He give each a yellow plastic tag and directs to the springs. The walk up to the springs is almost unreal in its beauty. once arriving at the hot springs was disappointing to see old rundown wooden shakes that looked like old out houses.

The wooden tubs are dirty and full of hot spring water that can not be enjoyed without adding cold water in a bucket. to fill just one bucket with cold water takes five minutes, and it take a number of buckets just to be able to put feet in.

Bagby Hot Springs is a homey place, although in need of repairs.
There is now a $6 fee and a park ranger who gives a little danger disclosure at the trail head. (I went here a few years ago and this was nonexistent). Parking down at the trail head is easy to find and there are bathrooms. The beginner hike to the Springs is well-kept, winding along a clear cold creek ideal for picnics or swimming.
There are three sets of tubs with three wooden tub types: group tubs, individual/couple tubs, and carved out logs best for an individual, but popular for couples due to the privacy. Visit the website for pictures. The water is scalding hot so unless your patience is phenomenal you will need to haul some buckets of cold water from down the walkway, buckets provided. One tub had a janky plug so water slowly leaked out, but the other tub we tried didn't have a problem. One of the boards was missing so we got a window to our neighbor.
As far as the atmosphere goes, the whole place is made of wood creating a homey structure besides the excessive vandalism. WIth all the carvings and messages, the serene atmosphere is lost- this is not a spa. Nudity is permitted. Guests should keep belongings in eye-sight as stealing as become popular at Bagby.

Nice walk through the forest to reach very pleasant hot springs. Be prepared to possibly encounter nude bathers. Also be cautious in the parking lot as car breakins are not unusual. Don't leave anything of value in sight and then you are probably ok. We have never had a problem when we visited, just be cautious with your belongings.
