“One of our favorites”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

We made our first off-season visits to this decades long favorite places. We usually stay here in summer and find it to be one of the best small hotels in North America.
In the summer it is wonderful in many ways, one of the highlights is some really excellent meals.
During the off season the dining room is closed so that makes it inconvenient to drive 12 miles round trip to town for dinner, especially a town so devoid of decent restaurants.
Breakfast is still available in winter, and it is one of the best breakfasts of any country inn.
They do offer wine and good appetizers in the evening, as they do in summer.
Rooms are wonderful and the raging Rogue River is spectacular to watch.
There is nothing like Tu Tu Tun.

One of the boxes to check in life is a trip down The Oregon Coast to Northern California via Highway 1.
When planning this trip, definatly make space for at least 1 night at the Tu Tu Tun Lodge.
It is not directly on the Pacific Ocean, but a few miles east on the Rogue River.
The rooms are all spacious & unique, furnished in a luxurious lodge style.
Definatly opt for the "family-style" dinner that they offer. It is excellent & the other guests that you will meet are always interesting & well-traveled.
The gardens & large pool are delightful.
If you have an opportunity for a room with a small outdoor tub, grab it. Looking out at the stars from this lodge is amazing.
We have stayed there three times (bringing other couples with us, twice) & we will all be back (us, this August).

Room Tip: Get a room with an outdoor tub, if one is available.

This is my second stay here. Before it was summer and this time in late February. It was very cozy and quiet. No dinner is served in the off months but they do serve an afternoon glass of wine and tasty bites. A very nice breakfast is included with the room. The off season is a great time to experience this fabulous lodge because it is much less expensive then.

The point of Tu Tu Tun Lodge is to just simply relax! From the moment you walk in, the innkeeper gives you a warm greeting and will always refer to you by name. The room had no TV, no cell service, and no Internet. Our room was fantastically relaxing with a pillow top bed, comfortable chairs, a fireplace, deep soaking tube on the balcony, nice heated floors, and Molton Brown products. Take a walk along the river, stroll the grounds, go for a swim (weather permitting), or enjoy complementary wine and appetizers from 4pm-6pm. A wonderfully delicious breakfast was included, and dinner is only available during the summer months (and they let you know when you make the reservations if dinner will not be available). We were told that dinner wouldn't be available on the night of our stay, and we were fine with that.

What we didn't know is that it would take 20 minutes on a very winding dark road to get their from Golds Beach. After driving 6 hours to get there, going back out to get dinner, 40 minutes round trip, we just weren't up for it, and other guests commented that the restaurants in Golds Beach weren't up to the level of what Tu Tu Tun would serve on a normal evening. They are all mediocre.

So here is where they missed the mark, and why I can't give them the 5th star:
* They had a private party that filled most of the hotel and they provided dinner for the party. Two couples, didn't get dinner that night (due to the 40 minute RT drive to go eat), and the innkeeper knew it. It would have been nice if something could have been made available to take to the room so not to disrupt the private party since the kitchen was open and food was available.
* A small microwave would go a long way in the rooms!!! If there is no dinner and people bring food in or back from a restaurant so far away, a microwave would be very helpful.
* There is actually Internet via wifi, but only in the lobby area, and they close the lobby at 6pm. Personally, relaxing is using the Internet for some people, if your going to have it at all, please spend the extra money on a wifi extender so the Internet can reach the rooms, not just in the lobby.
* The lodge needs a food pantry, if no dinner is being served. Snacks, ice cream, beer, wine, soda, microwavable food, would be fantastic for the guests that can't make it out!

I really wish there were more lodges/hotels like Tu Tu Tun Lodge that force you to do nothing. I love it, and while we were warned there would be no food until morning, if your going to be so far away from civilization, serve some people but not others, for the $$$$ price, I expected a little more off season or not. Would I go back? Definitely, but I would bring my own food and unfortunately a small microwave.

Room Tip: get there before it gets dark, and make sure you have food that will tie you over until morning if y...

Treat yourself and your partner to a luxurious and memorable escape from reality by staying at the TuTuTun (pronounced to-TOOT-un) Lodge. We are no strangers to nice places, but this was about as close to perfection that we've ever experienced. The atmosphere is one of understated elegance.

Upon arrival they offer complimentary appetizers and glass of wine (or beer). These aren't your run of the mill appetizers. . .we were served, tenderloin on a crostini, caramelized onion tart, roasted tomato on savory rosemary shortbread and an apple dessert. The main lodge is graciously appointed and decorated in the Northwest Style of wood, glass and very large river rock fireplace.

Our room was sumptuous and quiet. The privacy we experienced made the stay even more relaxing. Our beautifully appointed room had a king size bed that was dreamy comfortable dressed with crisply ironed 100% cotton sheets. There was a real wood-burning fireplace that came complete with as much wood as you need. The fire was built so all you had to do was light a match. We enjoyed the fire all evening while going back and forth to the pristine clean hot tub and our balcony while listening to the peaceful flowing of the Rogue River. This is the low season there were only 3 other couples.

I could go on and on. Top things we loved about staying here: Gorgeous room, spotlessly clean, the bed and bedding, Molton Brown amenities, fresh coffee with real cream, the privacy, and when we asked if we could borrow a knife for some fruit and cheese we brought - we were kindly given a mini wood cutting board, sets of silverware 2 lovely fabric napkins. The gourmet breakfast in the morning was impressive and scrumptious - we didn't eat until dinner! Nothing is done halfway here.

I don't have anything other that accolades for TuTuTun. However, if you are the type to prefer to have room service, turn down service and lots of help buzzing around - you might be disappointed. We on the other hand LOVED being left alone.

We have already booked our return visit! We can't wait!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Hawkins Riffle room, an upstairs corner room that we loved.

We are now staying at the lodge for 4 nights for a anniversary getaway and wow it's just breath taking the grounds are perfect and the service is top of line. Cindy the innkeeper is willing to make every request with open arms . We're a younger couple and yes maybe because of price older guest seems to be the norm but for us homebodies this is perfect

Hubby and I spent our 28th anniversary there. They had just reopened after remodeling and were we in for a treat. We stayed in the Chinook Suite and the decor and comfort is amazing. Beautiful soft new carpet, beautiful Stickley Mission Style furniture with a bit of an Asian twist, galley kitchen stocked with everything you'd need to cook anything you wanted, HUGE new deck with BBQ and nice table and chairs. The bed is so comfortable you never want to get out of it too, nice flatscreen TV and wood stove with never ending firewood for a nice fire. Cozy chennille throws and fluffy robes. Great big breakfasts, 2 courses and friendly wait staff. By the time we finished breakfast and admiring the view on the river we returned to our room to find it already tidied up. The property has a heated lap pool, beautiful area in front by the river to meander through, 3 par golf course and the office has about anything you'd find yourself needing during your stay. Since we were here in Feb. there were only 2 or 3 other couples here so pretty quiet. The owner/manager was very friendly. We'll be back next year.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Chinook Suite, top corner room, very quiet. If you stay in the rooms I'd sugge...
