“You Have To Stay Here!!”

I have never stayed at a better hotel! It has history and culture. Centered in the heart of downtown, everything is walkable. The staff helped us find great places to eat, dance, and shop while we were in town. The bar was nice as well as the managers reception. This is a absolute beautiful hotel and I wouldnt stay anywhere else now that Ive been here!

I had a great stay here. Steak house has a good bar for sports watching and nice menu. Scott our waiter was super. Feels like a Big city hotel with that stately feeling. Will go back.

I stayed one night at this hotel after a long drive from Reno, NV and was pleased with what I discovered upon arrival. The lobby is spacious and beautiful. The room was enormous with a super comfortable bed, large bathroom and a hot breakfast buffet breakfast was included. I enjoyed the location, which allowed me to walk around the downtown area for shopping and restaurants. My only complaint was their fee for parking...$30 valet or $18 self park, but with no in and out privileges.

A business partner and I spent 1 night at this hotel in March, 2012. It's a beautiful old building with a grand lobby. This is an older hotel, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The whole place feels classy. The attached restaurant, Portland Prime, is a very typical steakhouse with good food and exceptional service. The room was a little less plush than the usual Embassy Suites, but still nice and quite large. The bed was very comfortable. All in all, a very nice experience.

I decided to park my boss and our team in downtown Portland, as finding hotels in the PDX area seem to be either the airport, Beaverton, or some in the Northeast or Industrial. I view the Hilton brand to be like some of the legacy airlines...out-of-date, overpriced, and trying hard to catch up to other brands that have long passed them by.

For starters, the Hilton website remains the worst of the bunch. I can book a hotel on other sites in about 1 minute, whereas it takes about 5+ with Hilton...

The downtown location runs about $200 per night, and is a poor value..with this stay we had (pay-for WiFi, which I managed to get for free), a room heater that blew cold air, anemic hot water in the shower, and broken alarm clock and coffee maker. While the breakfast was good, the setting was funereal...I'll go to the local doughnut shop next time.

There are better values up near the Lloyd Center, and the distance to downtown is not too far. I'll stay up there next time...

My sister and I shared a suite here last week and it proved to be everything a vacationer would want. It is an unusual Embassy in that it is a restored historic building. The lobby area is huge and interesting and a great place to meet especially if you have a large group. The rooms are standard suites but our corner room on the top floor was very bright, spacious and amazingly quiet. My sister used the bedroom and I, the sofa bed. I can sleep on pretty much anything so I can't claim the sofa would be comfortable for everyone. For me, it was fine.
Service was good and the breakfast buffet slightly above standard although the basement room is a little dreary. We did not avail ourselves of the afternoon cocktail reception because it was in that sad room.
At $175 this was, by far, the best deal we could find in downtown Portland. (We paid an extra $7 for the top floor, corner) It is walking distance to almost everything and just a couple of blocks from any Max train.

Room Tip: The infamous VooDoo Donuts is right around the corner and the Saturday Market is about 4 blocks away...

First, this is a beautiful historic hotel, so let your mind wander back in history to the era of timber barons and beer empire builders. When you walk these hallways, you walk in their footsteps! Rooms are comfortable and service top notch on every one of the multiple occasions I've stayed. Basement swimming pool, steam room, and sauna are added perks fairly rare in a downtown hotel. Add a complimentary full breakfast with made to order omelettes, and well...I'm just not staying anywhere else when in PDX. And I do also enjoy the evening manager's welcome glass o' wine or two. A dirty little secret? The shabby but serviceable "Game Room" where you'll find billiard and foos ball tables and a few pinball/video games. Challenge your family to an 8-ball championship! And, as other reviewers have noted Embassy Suites Downtown PDX is an easy walk to great dining, quirky Portland iconic places (like Voodoo Donuts), and a stone's throw to the MAX line that will take you anywhere else.

Room Tip: Rooms in the SE corner of the hotel are best for fabulous city and river views
