This boutique hotel does everything right, and they do it with style and panache. Located perfectly in downtown Portland, the local streetcar is right across the street. You can get to many parts of the city , including the airport, easily. The location is quiet, and walkable to all kinds of restaurants and shopping.

But the style.....oh the style! Refurbished in the style of old Hollywood glam, there are images from films of the 30's and 40's everywhere, including on the keys. Tastefully decorated in deco style, my room was beautiful, the marble bathroom was larger than my one at home (thank you check in guy for the unsolicited upgrade). I felt truly pampered simply staying in the room.

The cocktail lounge is dark, intimate, and the perfect spot for a rendezvous with Bogey, or a snack and a cosmo during Happy Hour. I capitalize it, because with the fantastic food, drink specials, an interesting crowd, it deserves big letters.

Finally, the service is as it should be: helpful but so discrete (for lack of a better term) that you don't feel overwhelmed.

In short, this is the perfect hotel in Portland, for business, romance, or other travel. Go, and say hello to Bogey over a martini for me.

Room Tip: Ask for a room ending in 22...... They are larger.

Stayed there for 3 nights as part of a travel portland package. The King Deluxe room was tiny! Smaller than the hotel room we had in New York and it cost as much. When I asked for a different room they said that all of the rooms were small because it's an old hotel and the others wouldn't be that much different. Also, I HATE paying for internet - $9.95 and it was slow! The website said WiFi but didn't specifically mention a fee. The lobby was nice, Gracie's restaurant was cute and old fashioned. The gym was small but nicely equipped. The hotel itself is kind of out of the way - west of 405 near the soccer stadium - a bit of a hike to the Pearl or Downtown. The service was friendly. In summary, I think there are much better hotels in Portland that offer a lot more value.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front of the building if possible, away from the MAX, and definitely make sure that you are not above the service alley.

Selected this hotel based on reviews. DON'T take a room near the fitness center. If someone begins pounding the treadmill at 6 am, it is loud enough to wake you up and begins a pounding in your head. (room 228) There was also a loud mechanical humming noise outside all night. Horrible sleep. I'm so mad for not asking for an upper floor. Giving 3 stars since my stay earlier in the week in a 4th floor room was better. Rooms are clean and pretty- stayed in a queen. Comfortable beds. Convenient location. Driftwood Bar was good. Wasn't impressed with valets earlier in week; when I pointed out a just-broken into car parked outside the hotel and suggested they report it to police, one was like "uh yeah, maybe" and did not. I'd want someone to alert MY car's vandalism to police, so I later called the front desk. Person there totally agreed and presumably did something. Front desk v helpful in general. Steep stairs from street to lobby, so would be a difficult hotel entry for an older person with a walker or cane, or someone disabled.

The Hotel Deluxe was a fabulous place to stay. The employees made us feel welcome and pampered without making us feel out of place in our T-shirts and jeans. The location was right down town and within walking distance of Downtown Portland. We had a great time!

On our way home from a trip to CA, we spent the night in Portland. Hotel deLuxe was the perfect stopover- great location, walking distance to the Pearl District, comfortable room, nice staff, and a great bar with some very tasty happy hour snacks. The rooms and bathrooms are a bit on the small side, and it's a little bit cozy for two people with two bags. That said, the decor was great, the amenities are very nice, and they have the best honor bar/snack tray! We'd definitely stay here again when en route to visit family in CA.
