“New App Makes Finding Books Even More Fun”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

Powell's has a new app; I used it on my Android phone. It gives you a map. You type in the name of the book you are looking for. The app tells you if it is available in the store and for what price. I was able to see if the books I wanted were available used without walking all over the store. If they did have the book I wanted, directions were provided to the correct aisle.

My favorite thing about Powell's is that used and new books are right next to each other on the shelf. I love browsing the different editions and deciding which to buy.

My daughter and I both took separate paths to our literary loves and then met up after an hour. My favorite spot in Portland.

“Hope for the book reading world”
Reviewed 19 March 2012

For a reader, a visit to Powell's Books in Portland is the ultimate confirmation that the reading way of life is alive and well and thriving in the USA. The walls of the huge, sprawling bookstore were not only lined with shelves of books, floor to ceiling, but the floors were likewise crowded with happy shoppers. Just the fast moving check out line was about a ctiy block long when I finally finished my browsing and queued up to pay. A visit to Portland is simply not complete without a stop in Powell's City of Books, a true Portland gem.

“There's no better place to get lost and find yourself”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

Powell's is an institution here in Portland. Whenever we have visitors in town I take them here. Big Powell's downtown is the just as it sounds. Big. There are rooms and rooms of books, magazines and anything else you might want to find in a bookstore. Take a map and don't be afraid to ask directions. The staff is courteous and know the store very well. You will find what you're looking for and even some books you never knew you wanted. When you need a break, try the coffee shop. Sit and peruse what you've just collected while enjoying a cuppa joe. The Powell's stores are all through the city. On Hawthorne is the one for cooking and gardening, Powell's Techinical books, is just behind Big Powell's. If you're outside the city, go to Powell's at Cedar Hills. You really can't miss this one.
