Don't rush this visit, leave time to soak in the beauty of the surroundings. Have a tea and snacks, this place is an oasis.

This is a little oasis in the middle of a honestly ugly area of town. The garden is larger than you think with several different areas of varying architecture and plantings. They also have free tours and special exhibits/talks on the weekend. Well worth a trip.

The Chinese Garden is very small, located in the middle of downtown Portland. When in the garden you don't realize you are in the middle of Portland.

The garden admission is $10 per person, which was a little high for the size and amount of time we spent at the garden.

So pretty. Worth the $10 admission. Bring your camera.
Use the map to read about what each room/area is for. Make sure to get your fortune!

We were lucky enough to join in as tour of this unique area was starting, but there is also a program, and laminated cards to help in flower identification, if there is no docent tour while you are there.
The rooms and gardens were constructed in China, and then reassembled here in Portland as a representation of the tranquil garden a rich artist might have near his home. The garden honors nature, rocks, water, tranquility and poetry. The carvings and art are amazing, the flowers and plants are fragrant and beautiful. There was art for sale, music being played, a fortune stick cup, and the wonderful relaxing sound of water flowing down the rocks to a Koi pond.
You can stay as long as you like, and there Is a gift shop on your way home, a lot of very unique books and gifts.
