We have stayed here once before at Spring Break and it's the reason we came back! The view is always breathtaking from your ocean-facing deck, and can expect every kind of weather in Spring - fog, rain, drizzle, wind, hail....and sunshine. Great for walks, kites and beachcombing. If you have a wetsuit, you can even catch a wave or two in the surf with your surfboard; the waves are better in the known surf spots (like Ecola State Park or Short Sands), but how often do you get to surf outside your door with WHALES? More on that later.

The resort is easy to find (about 45 min. South of Seaside OR on Hwy 101), and there are a lot of small towns north and south of us that we day tripped within an hour's drive. Coming into Rockaway, there's a big sign on the West Side of the road to tell you where to turn.

If you are coming from Seaside or Portland, you might want to pick up groceries before you arrive--there's not a lot of selection in a small town, but there are enough restaurants if you don't mind eating out each night, especially seafood. You can get fresh crabs (or catch your own) or clams nearby. My favorite go-to is the Cilantro-lime Shrimp I pick up at Costco before I get here; it's locally sourced and the only place I can find it.

As other reviews have noted, the building is clean, but showing its age, which is expected when you have a building on the Ocean. The management and office staff are friendly, and there is ALWAYS have a sign on the window welcoming the guest families and where they're from--a nice touch. We've had a suite on the 3rd floor both times, and noticed there are different amenities in different rooms. Some have dishwashers and ovens, but this time it had neither, which was a small disappointment. There is a microwave and two burner stove; there seems to be a way to bake in the microwave, but its too small for a regular size frozen pizza and we couldn't find any instructions on how to do this anyways. Our room actually had a queen bed, a murphy bed and a sofa bed. If you have a lot of luggage, it's a long walk to the third floor--and there's no elevator. The facility has an indoor hot tub and pool, but we spent most our time out and about so it didn't matter. The office offers a selection of DVD's to watch and the rooms have a DVD player for those rainy days. Wifi is GOOD, an important part of teenager vacations. Tip: if you have netflix or other streaming account, bring an hdmi cord to hook up your laptop to the TV.

Outdoor things to do: Beachcombing, kiting and surfing. We saw lots of people beachcombing, our neighbours were kiting each day, and my husband surfed a few times with his longboard. We even got a picture of him surfing while a gray whale went by! There's easy stairway access to the beach behind the hotel, and an outdoor shower and hose beside the office to wash off so it doesn't track all the way back to your room. There is a good recycling program here, so sort your garbage to minimize your environmental impact! Thanks for having us, & you can count on us coming again!

Room Tip: Ask if there is a dishwasher and regular oven in the room before you buy your groceries. Or bring paper plates!

We were thrilled to get to stay at Rockaway Beach. We were right there on the beach and enjoyed every sunset. The facility does show it's age in the décor, but it is clean and well kept. The staff is so accommodating and goes out of their way to be sure you enjoy your time not only at the resort but surrounding area. Jeff's Saturday meeting gave us points of interest to visit and explore, a crabbing trip signup, and numerous place to eat. We couldn't have asked for more! If you get the opportunity to go, do it!

We went to the Oregon Coast for Christmas Break. If you are familiar with the Oregon Coastline, this means you are bound for rain, wind, and general foul weather. We however had the luckiest week at the beach ever in my life. There were low tides, expansive clean beaches, sun, no wind, and 55 degree days in December. We experienced glorious sunsets that we could actually sit outside and enjoy...ok enough random weather gloating...

The resort is clean, tidy, and directly on the beach. There are 180 degree views from the living room, kitchen, and bedroom. From bed each morning from our ground floor room, you can actually watch the waves from the comfort of bed. We were drawn outside, but we chose this resort because if the weather is miserable you can still see the beach experience. ** of special note** If you are in the North building you can have a fireplace and views of the beach, we were in the South Building.

We also chose this resort because of the indoor pool and hot tub. There are 180 degree views of the ocean from the hot tub. It is great stormy weather of fair weather magic alike.

Overall this is a "seasoned" resort. It has confused updates, and is far from chic. For the views/value and space for family it is unparalleled.

Room Tip: Chose the South building for space, North building if you want a fireplace.

Wonderful staff, very helpful, great housekeeping, friendly maintenance staff. Just steps from the ocean (Pacific), indoor pool and hot tub looking at the ocean, fun recreation room with puzzles and books for us older folks, super beach for walking, jogging, flying kites. Large 1 bedroom units that sleep 6 (master bedroom-murphy bed and hide abed), two bathrooms and have a kitchen. Many good places to eat a short way from the resort. What could be better.??

Wonderful property! Has a hot tub that overlooks the ocean, a sauna, a heated swimming pool (very nice since we went in April) and close to lots of attractions. It's very quiet and peaceful. Rooms are equipped with TV, fabulous ocean view, a balcony or a patio and a mini kitchen. The kitchens don't have a dishwasher or a stove. The microwave is a convection oven, so you are able to cook. It's an older resort, but very well maintained. The only drawback is the very slow Wi-Fi.

Room Tip: All rooms have an ocean view. Due to health issues, we were on the ground floor and still had a great view! Fabulous sunsets.
