Stunning location. Gorgeous hotel. The furnishings and details are lovely. My husband enjoyed the pool and golfing and I enjoyed the hikes and sitting on the wonderful porch reading. You can wander the grounds for hours looking at all the historical details and lovely decor. While there isn't much to do in Bedford, this spot is so idyllic that it doesn't matter. We had a nice meal with family 1796 - both food and service was great. The only aspect that was not up to par with the remainder of this outstanding venue was the Frontier tavern for lunch, as service was a bit slow and the food was just average. Regardless, our time at the hotel was just wonderful.

We visited the Bedford in Oct 2011 and had such a wonderful experience we couldn't wait to go back and share it with friends. We felt the service was a little down from our initial visit. Maybe because the hotel has gotten more popular and it was definitely more crowded. None of the problems was major but they were unexpected and annoying. However, I must mention that when a request was made it was filled very quickly, from bringing wineglasses and foam pillows to the room. All of the staff were gracious and accommodating and tried to make everything right with us.Kudos to Connie at the front desk who really went out of her way to make it up to us and ensure a third visit!
The spa here is wonderful, and I have been to many great ones. I was so happy to get to the relaxation room to see that they now have throw blankets on all of the lounges for some snuggly relaxing. On my last visit I had requested a blanket for myself, which was immediately and graciously filled. I heard many people commenting on how happy they were that there were now blankets. Nice touch!
All of our meals were wonderful, with the exception of the guys' sandwiches from Che Sara Sara before golf. We brought our own wine, glad to pay the corkage fee. However, at the 1796 Room my husband's steak was overcooked and while they offered to make a new one, he was already half done and didn't want to wait. They did make it up to us on the bill. They never did make up for the fact that they did not acknowledge my husband's birthday, which I had called about and spoke with someone directly about. Like I said, little disappointments
The first visit we stayed on the first floor of the spa wing, which rooms have the nicer bathrooms. If you read my previous review you will see that the bathroom in that room opened directly across from the bed, disturbing the other person with the light. So while this room on the third floor of the spa wing is supposedly not as nice, it was a very nice room in all respects. The bathroom was a typical very nice hotel bathroom, with a little dressing table and mirror inside, which was very nice for me. I felt the rooms were pretty much the same other thant the layout and the bathroom. I do think I will try a room on the Historic side next time. And despite the minor glitches, there WILL be a next time.

When Groupon hosted a deal to the Omni Bedford Springs Resort, I was skeptical but intrigued due to the sheer size and grandiosity of the resort in the photos. I packed up my husband for a weekend away, and headed on up the highway. A 2hr 45 minute drive from the Northern Virginia area, the Omni Bedford Springs felt like a world away. From the moment of our arrival, the service from the staff was impeccable, and their knowledge of the resort's history thorough. The rooms are appointed to the style of America's Gilded Age, though they lean heavily towards the stylings of the early 20th century. The spa is AHHHMAZING, I indulged in several treatments while there, and have not had the same service many other places. There is a lovely golf course on the property, as well as hiking trails that parallel Shober's Run. The many springs in the general region of the resort feed the resort's indoor pool - one of the first (if not the first) of it's kind during the early days of the resort in the 19th century. Two restaurants are on property, 1796 Steak and Chop House and the Crystal Room, both feature solid menus, with the Crystal Room also having the benefit of a breakfast and dinner buffet, well stocked wine lists, and impeccable, timely service. A helpful tip from one of our servers was to join the Omni Hotels loyalty programs due to all of the freebies, though whether you are a member or not, the staff treat you as royalty. This is a gem in the middle of the South-western Pennsylvania woods, not to be missed, and to be enjoyed as often as is possible. My husband and I are already planning our return trip.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms face the golf course or are on upper floors, spring for an upgrade to get the view...

Upon arrival for our return visit to Bedford Springs, we were crestfallen to learn that the extraordinarily gracious and generous "High tea," which we were completely enchanted by last year in March, was replaced by "tea bags and hot water," most likely as a cost-cutting move. I really did gush and recant the experience for numerous family and friends; it was positively magical, with the "player piano" playing favorites from "Les Miz" and the most decadent, yummy finger foods and sandwiches generously provided pre-dinner. It set the "Vacation" tone, and really made you feel like you were dearly appreciated family that had "come home."

Despite the fact that I would not really "spring" for these rates on a recurring basis, the charming experience that followed our first "High tea," begged for a return. That tea was what separated this place from the thousand other places... we were hatching plots to bring back both family AND friends (separately), but not unless we hear that "Omni Corporate" has heard us! Apparently, the Bedford Springs Mgr. is the one who very thoughtfully and graciously purchased the urns and commissioned the fabulous custom-blended and specially theme-named whole-leave teas with aromatic/flavorful essences to die for, and had his Dining staff create a scrumptious set of finger-food yummies to compliment the offering... THAT set OMNI AND "Bedford Springs" apart like none other... the cost could not possibly have been worth the repeat business and the reputation that you began to establish, Omni; definitely worth re-visiting this decision, I would hope!!

We will take you comment to heart and revisit our decision to offer high tea in the lobby. We do offer a greatly enhanced tea service in The Crystal Room as the lobby can be an extremely busy area during the check-in times, usually between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Therefore, we moved it to a more suitable setting, albeit a bit more formal. We do, however, feel that water, tea, and lemonade in the summer should be easily available to all of our guests throughout the day in the lobby area. We appreciate your comments and hope you will return soon!

Again we had a wonderful stay at the Omni Bedford Springs. Don't miss the pub, the firepit at night with S'mores and the great walking trails! Breakfast buffet is fantastic. Great pool and Spa. Super nice staff. It's like stepping back in time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the porch and rocking chairs facing the road.

We spent a most enjoyable weekend at Bedford Springs. The staff was welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Two staff members deliberated about the best route for us to get to Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water (about a 90 minute drive) and we ended up taking the scenic route they recommended. The concierge was happy to advise about area restaurants and shopping (there's not much more than antique and gift shops). We had dinner our first night at 1796 in the hotel. While it was not cheap, the prices were not as outrageous as I had read on some reviews and the food was exceptionally well prepared. The wines were overpriced by about 20-30% but at least they give you appropriate stem wear.

We were upgraded to a "Luxury" King room in the spa wing. The room was well appointed, the linens were very nice. The room had a foyer area that made it feel unusually spacious. The bathroom was fair sized. There was a soaking tub and a separate shower with a "sunflower" shower head. The marble floor with the subway tile was attractive and everything was immaculate. As an Omni Select member we received complementary coffee delivered to the room and a couple of other perks. It takes about two minutes to sign up and if you are staying at an Omni it is well worth the minimal investment of time.

There are photos throughout the hotel taken mostly from the late 1800's. They are fascinating and my wife and I went from one public room to the next absorbing the history. Unlike some historical venues, Bedford Springs is not resting on its laurels. From check-in to check-out the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. This could be considered clever hotel policy to seduce unsuspecting patrons into wanting to return. In our case it worked and I am sure we will be back.

Room Tip: Almost all the rooms facing the front have balconies with chairs and a table. The atmosphere of the...

Our second much awaited trip back to Bedford Springs was wonderful. While it is in the old town of Bedford, there is not much to do. However, the resort itself is enough for a getaway of much needed rest. The spa is second to none, my husband loves the golf course and the service and attentiveness is top notch! Anytime we save up enough to go, I am all for it! Close enough for us Pittsburghers to feel like we are getting away from it all. While there, I am constantly updating my Facebook status to "brag" where I am. The decor and cleanliness of the hotel is obvious everywhere you look. I tend to look at baseboards, tops of pictures and picture frames (and there are loads here) and corners of rooms for dust and cobwebs but none to be found here! Bathrooms are spotless and attention to detail in the whole resort is not to be missed! This is my favorite resort close to home. Will go back and hopefully soon!

Room Tip: Ask for room on Spa wing. It is closer to the spa and hole 1 for the golf course. If you want a view...
