The Queen - A Victorian Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #3 of 5 Bellefonte B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 8 August 2017

Three nights at the Queen. Never was asked how we slept or how comfortable we were. Bed was nice and soft but we rolled to the middle. Breakfast was tasty but always sweet and we were never asked if there was anything else we needed. Hostess kept forgetting my de-caf coffee. Though stated that gluten free foods were managed, they were not that well prepared. Some of the regular foods were very good- especially the fruit topped waffles but that's all there was to eat. Though the website states the hosts have separate quarters they live and stay under the same roof as the guests which creates a very different experience. The room/house was clean but whoever serviced the room left a half eaten candy on the dresser. Assumption that we WOULD come back rather than a request to please come again. The decor was lovely but found the antique extras (like clothing in the closet and the not to be used bath screen) to be a hindrance and the decor throughout the house to be a display showcase for her collectibles. (They were a little too much but I went into the reservation having seen the photos) The guest parlor is not appropriate for children over the age of 8 months and under the age of 15 because of all the delicate and old items and furniture. All eyes point to Penn State so if you are looking for something other than the university you'll have to search it out for yourself like we did. Hosts did not seem to understand what we were looking for when we DID ask for information/recommendations. It was quiet, in a quiet , safe neighborhood, close enough to walk to the downtown area. The Poo-pourri toilet spray was very effective which was good since the water-closet was very small and had no exhaust fan. Nice but not nice enough to go back to, mostly because the service was lacking and at $179/night we expected more.

Room Tip: if you prefer a shower or it's hard to get out of a tub, choose another room.

We highly recommend this inn, which boasts a beautiful garden and spacious rooms. The innkeeper could not have been more accommodating, nor could our all-too-brief stay have been more comfortable. And Bellefonte itself boasts some outstanding examples of 19th century Gothic and Romanesque architecture.

I stopped here on a long drive. Nancy was a wonderful host and the house and accommodations were beautiful. Bellefonte is a lovely little town, easily walkable to restaurants downtown. I hope to be back to stay again.

Nancy is a font of historical knowledge and a host who really enjoys her guests. Maybe 15 min. from I80, and a nice place to stop. She was happy to adjust to our veg/vegan tastes, and the French Toast ranks in the top 10 breakfasts of all time! 10 min walk to the waterfront and a few places for dinner. Less than 30 min from several state parks.

Room Tip: No elevator.

My lady and I recently lodged for a weekend at the Queen, in Bellefonte, PA. The house was simply gorgeous! Great attention to detail, authentic period furnishings, clean accommodations, and a wonderful ambience were present. The breakfasts supplied were delicious. The hostess was very friendly and inviting...she even asked us to attend an evening gathering that she was hosting. This is a bed and breakfast that travelers are able to refer to as a "home away from home." It was a great weekend, and we plan on returning.

This was our second stay at The Queen. Stayed in Anne's room first time, then the Governor's this time. In both cases we were more than impressed! Its like taking a step back in time.. rooms are so well decorated and is so warm and cozy. The owner and service people are great! The Queen defines what a B&B should be.....

Room Tip: Governor's is the best
