“Nice casual lunch spot”
Review of Back Door Cafe - CLOSED

This is a great place for a quiet, casual lunch, especially if you enjoy light fare. Their salads are great - fresh, with a good assortment of greens and accent vegetables - and they are large and filling. The ambiance is nice, and there is an outdoor eating area - albeit a very small one - in the back. Very pleasant in the summer.

The only real negative - and for some people this is a big one - is that in order to get into the cafe, you have to go through a narrow outdoor corridor of sorts between the cafe and the adjacent building. I went to the Back Door Cafe last summer with a friend who is mildly claustrophobic, and that 20 or so foot walk was very unsettling for her.

The price is comparable to the larger chain restaurants, with better food and better atmosphere, so I'd have to call this a good value for the money.

I always get the Nutty Tuna Wrap with a house salad and it is very good combination of flavors. They are known for their freshly made tuna. They also have great salads. The atmosphere is always friendly and it has an artistic flair about the decor.

Wow. This cafe does everything picture perfect from hospitality to service to presentation to menu selections. We thought we knew what great gazpacho was but Bill takes his gazpacho to another level. The two servers, Meg and Emily, managed the entire cafe never missing a detail. They were poetry in motion. It is such a pleasure to dine in a really pleasant atmosphere experiencing really delicious food prepared by a creative chef and efficiently served by upbeat competent servers. The quiche of the day was perfect for the hot day.
Kudos to Chef Bill and the staff.

Good food, terrific service and an outdoor patio for dogs. Plus is that it's one block from the Dickinson campus.

Picked the Back Door Cafe without knowing anything about the place. What luck, it was such a yummy lunch. Had a cup of their vegetarian chili and a Monte Cristo sandwich. The portions were big enough for us to split a sandwich. Good spot for lunch.
