STAFF was very pleasant and very helpful. only problem was there was a very strong odor when you entered the lobby, I believe it was coming from the cleanser they used to clean the lobby.

The air conditioning did not work at all and the bathroom sink water did not drain. I was told someone would be right up but they never showed. They continued responding with it was in the 50's last night. My response was it was hot and still is was in the room.

This is the second time my family has stayed here. Overall it is a nice hotel and we enjoyed our stay with a few minor notes. The hotel is right off of the highway so there is some traffic noise from the exit if you are in a room on that side of the building. Also, the breakfast has a nice selection but lacks a hot section of scrambled eggs and sausage that other Microtels have. Since this location does not have a pool we will probably stay at the Wilkes-Barre location next time we are in the area.

Overall Rating: 75.5/100 ( 7.6/10)

Class of Room Booked: King Suite
Class of Room Stayed: King Suite
Price per night (w/o taxes): $84

The Quick Hits:

Would I stay here again? Yes
Value rating based on price paid: Good

The Details:

Hotel Design Location and Layout:

Location (7.0/10 – Met expectations) – Easy on/off to highway, but entrance is very hard to locate. Go about 1/2 block PAST hotel and look for small sign on pole to make turn in and go around back of auto shop. Restaurants nearby (mostly chains) - short drive. Nothing really in walking distance.

Hotel Lobby/Common Areas(7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – Hotel was surprisingly spacious and nice for a Microtel

Hotel Amenities(7.5/10 – Met expectations) – No pool, small but acceptable fitness room.

Room:

Design and Layout (8/10 – Met expectations) – Surprisingly large room with bed, couch and wet bar type area with small fridge and microwave.

Comfort(7.0/10 – Met expectations) – Comfy bed and decent AC. The desk chairs however are old school kitchen chairs and not very comfortable to use desk area.

Condition(7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – Room was clean and well maintained except the inside of microwave, top and sides were dirty.

Amenities(7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – TV mounted to wall limiting view angle.

Front Desk/Service(9/10 – Greatly exceeded expectations) – Super polite front desk staff. Also happened to overhear the GM trying very hard to solve a problem, including looking at other hotels.

Housekeeping(7.5/10 – Met Expectations)

Food Service

Dining:

Dining Room(7.0/10 -Met expectations) – Standard microtel offerings, muffins looked a little sad. It will fill you but nothing to rave about.

Other:

Internet Speed Test Results (from Room via Oookla): 10 mps down 1.8 up

Family Friendly: Yes - Large rooms offer plenty of space, storage space is a bit limited.

Pet Friendly: No

Notes: Given the price I didn't have the highest expectations, but the hotel is very well maintained and all glitches were minor (room only had 2 hangers but that was all I needed and I am sure I could have gotten more - dirty microwave but not obvious, etc). I am not normally a fan of Microtel's but the staff at this one from management down seems really eager to provide a positive experience.

About my system - All scores are based on expectations, where 7.5 = met expectations, 10 is highly exceeded, and 1, well, something went horribly wrong. Expectations take into account a number of factors, such as price paid, brand, and location. They will vary greatly from the Waldorf Astoria to a Super 8. All scores are averaged and translated to a score out of 10. 1 Trip Advisor dot applies for each 2 points, so 4 dots is the most likely scenario.
