Sandy has everything ready for your stay. This cabin is so organized and well-put together. All you need is your personal hygiene items and clothing! Once we arrived, we went to a local Walmart and Weis Grocery to get food for our stay. (These are within 10 miles of the cabin). When we weren't out exploring, we enjoyed relaxing at the cabin, by the fire, or strolling down the quiet road (there is zero traffic!).
If you plan on using their kayaks, remember that your vehicle will need to be equipped to transport to/from the dropoff/pickup point. So you will need a trailer or other means to transport. We had a great time kayaking down the river. :)
We took a day and went to the DelGrosso's Amusement/Splash Park (about an hour away). The kids really enjoyed this day. The park is small enough that we let the kids explore on their own (ages 17, 13, & 8), as long as they stayed together. We set up a "home base" in the water park and they knew to check in often. This park is NOT big at all, and does not have a lot of amusement rides... but that is what makes it great! The kids loved our day here.
We also went to the Flight 93 National Memorial (about an hour away). It was a very somber and touching place to visit, although the kids didn't appreciate it as much as the adults did. I recommend visiting here if you are interested in the 9/11 events/history. On the way back to the cabin, we stopped at the Lincoln Cafe just a few minutes down the road from the Memorial. It was a very small diner, but the food was excellent. We got burgers, fries, and onion rings. They were fantastic! The staff was friendly... I recommend stopping here.
Overall, we had a great stay at Camp Shoop. We loved the peaceful setting, and the the kids enjoyed taking turns playing the Wii while we were hanging out.
Thank you Sandy and Family for a great hospitable stay!
P.S. - Bring Dramamine! Lots of twisty-turning mountain roads! Our littlest got car sick - literally!
