Visited with family for Sunday dinner.
Best Sunday dinner I have had this year. Food served hot, delicious meat and vegetables. Compliments to the chef.
Staff very polite and helpful.
Will definitely visit again.

When you arrive you just cannot stop and admire the architecture and then the oldie worldie interia design in side, the refreshment and food top marks. Worth a re-visit any time and great value for money.

Glenn thank you for your review. We are glad you love The Lion as much as we do. It is one of the oldest buildings in Hebden Bridge, serving patrons since 1657. Reviews like yours help make sure we can carry on doing just that. We hope you come back soon.

This is a lovely old building in a pretty town, off road parking and a friendly welcome.
However the room out at the back had an eighties leftover bathroom with tap handles that were just about falling off, a crack in the bath and peeling wallpaper. It was a decent size and clean with a comfortable bed though.
The evening meal wasn't great. It was all delivered hot and fresh (eventually) but my 'Thai style fishcakes' had no flavour to them and were more than 50% potato and the 'shoestring' fries looked and tasted like they'd just come from McDonalds I didn't finish it as it was too stodgy for me. Not impressed.
The breakfast, however, knocked it out of the park. Served up in a sensible time frame and absolutely delicious.
I can't condemn this place out of hand , maybe we just chose wrong and got the room that was next in line for a refurb. but I can't recommend it either. We won't be going back

Thank you for your review. I’m saddened to hear that you were disappointed with your stay.

I wish you had spoken to us about it at the time to allow us to rectify your meal and discuss the ongoing renovation plans with you.

It is a family run business which we only took on late last year. Since then there has been a huge programme of works ongoing. The courtyard rooms are next in line.

It is a shame that you didn’t mention all of the improvements to those rooms such as the new Laura Ashley furniture, the quality soft furnishings, the new smart tv, the new bed linen and soft, fluffy towels.

The bathroom is clean and perfectly serviceable but we agree is a little dated, which is why one by one over the next few months they are all receiving a full replacement. The bedrooms themselves are also being fully redecorated. Our workmen have been flat out in other areas of the hotel for months but will focus on our lovely Courtyard rooms very soon.

We hope this might tempt you to return.

We stayed for one night and really enjoyed it. The room was nice and large and recently redecorated, with nice touches like fresh flowers. We were travelling with a baby which is always difficult but the hotel provided a travel cot (that looked very new) and rooms 9 and 10 in the courtyard have a ramp to the door so accessible with a pram. There was also a table right outside so we could set up the baby monitor and enjoy a drink once our baby was asleep in the evening. The courtyard is cobbled and small (which you'd expect in a historic building right in the town centre) but we managed to get a parking spot right outside the room. We ate breakfast and evening meal in the bar and really enjoyed both. I definitely hope to be back when our baby is older and we can explore the wonderful walks nearby.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you live The Lion as much as we do.

We look forward to your return, Hebden Bridge is a great town, lots of lovely walks and places to visit. I’m sure you and your little one will enjoy exploring everything on your return.

We came here for Sunday Lunch 26/8, after waiting 20 minutes for a menu, we ordered the Sunday Roast at £15 each. When it came, there were 3 small at least triple roasted potatoes, a strip of roast carrot, a strip of roast parsnip, some cauliflower cheese, a slice of beef and a Yorkshire pudding. When we had finished eating we both had a quarter of the plate full of fat from the roast beef. We did mention it to the Waitress, she said she was sorry. But I cannot justify paying £15 for a small meal to be left with a plate of fat. The place was very busy with people eating and drinking but we wouldn't be in a rush to go back.

Hello, and thank you for your review.

We thank you for visiting us this Bank Holiday Sunday. It was an incredibly busy day and we are pleased had a huge volume of very happy customers. It’s a shame you left without being completely satisfied.

Our Roast Beef Sunday Lunches feature sirloin of beef sliced directly from a full joint freshly delivered every weekend. We included all the trimmings with our roast, including the fat layer from the sirloin as some customers love the flavour it provides. We appreciate it isn’t for everyone but it can always be asked to be removed and we will of course serve it as requested for those who like their Sunday roasts a certain way.

We serve Sirloin instead of a regular topside so that our customers receive a high quality portion of escellent Yorkshire beef. Hopefully you’ll agree better quality meat makes a better quality Sunday Lunch!

Hopefully you will return in the future and we can serve your roast to the best of your liking but until then - thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

Billy Fletcher
