“Blissfully relaxing!”
Reviewed April 10, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We had a really comfortable, relaxing, enjoyable week at Bishops Quay. The location on the estuary is outstanding and the house takes full advantage of this with wonderful views of the river from every window and a wide long balcony outside the sitting room. Kate was an absolute pleasure to deal with right from the start. We booked last minute as a couple with a young baby and she went out of her way to make sure we were all looked after and our young daughter had everything she needed - travel cot, high chair and even a buggy, books and toys! If we had realised quite how well equipped the house was and how thoughtfully she'd set things up then we could have left a few bags at home! We arrived to a delicious cream tea and everything else flowed from there. The house is set up in a generous, comfortable way and we enjoyed a blazing log fire each night after lovely days getting to know the local area and taking lots of pictures. Bliss!

“Total Bliss!!”
Reviewed January 24, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

Having just spent our second Christmas/New Year's at Bishops Quay I cannot rate it highly enough. The attention to detail and comfort combined with Kate and Ben's warm hospitality makes BIshops Quay a unique holiday destination. The interiors are comfortable and were decorated for the holidays to lovely effect and when the rains drove us indoors we did not mind retreating there to enjoy the fire and river views. The bonus of being able to view local scenery from one of their boats added to the specialness of our holiday. Bishops Quay is a wonderful place and we hope to return many times in the years to come. In short our holiday engendered feelings of total bliss!!

“A wonderful hideaway on the Helford River”
Reviewed November 13, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

We have just enjoyed a wonderful 9 day stay at a hideaway on the Helford River. 'Bishops Quay' was a fantastic place to stay - very homely, warm and comfortable and attention to detail was first class. The location was great, easy driving distance to Gardens, Beaches with a spectacular coastline and of course the river with an abundance of wildlife. Thank you Ben and Kate for your kind hospitality and we look forward to a return visit next year, it really was 'home from home' and we loved it.

“Our Favourite Place in Cornwall.”

We have been visiting this wonderful riverside house for ten years along with Barney, our Cocker spaniel. Kate and Ben have always made us I feel very welcome from the moment we arrive, with a delicious homemade cake and biscuits and tea at the ready. There is also fresh eggs from Kate's happy chickens, which Barnie and I say hello to, when we go for our morning stroll in the lovely surrounding fields and lanes . Kate's home made jam is a real treat and this year the runner beans were lovely. It's all these touches and more, which make Bishops Quay special and where you feel at home and totally relaxed.
The location is peaceful with no noise except the wild life, we love to sit and watch nature go by, in this tranquil place. Although there are many Cornish venues to visit, our favorite place is sitting on the balcony watching the tides come and go, no matter what time of year, and we have experienced all seasons. We saw dolphins come up the river this year, photos to prove it! and the bird life is always wonderful.

The house has great character and is very comfortable. You feel part of the family history with the nautical themes and history , pictures and stories all around you, particularly the family archive which Kate so generously shares with guests. In the autumn and spring the house is warm and cosy and we can sit in front of a wonderful fire or look out of the windows and watch the river, fascinating and enchanting in all seasons.
. The walks around the Helford area and the nearby creeks are just magical. Access to many sections of both the north and south Cornish coastal path are only a short drive away. There are so many beautiful coves and beaches,as well as lots of dog friendly beaches.
The food in the area is delicious such as the local crab sandwiches from the Cafe at Helford and freshly caught local fish sold close by . There are supermarkets within easy reach but the local fresh fish and veg are so good there's no need to visit them. There is an organic farm within walking distance and a great village store close by.

We have visited this wonderful place sometimes twice a year and never fail to be impressed by the location and the welcome we get from Kate and Ben, it is like our second home. We have traveled widely over the years and returned to a number of locations but none call us back as strongly and frequently as BQ.

Myself, parents and other members of our family have stayed at Bishops Quay every year, sometimes more than once, for the last 14 years. I cannot recommend it enough. The house is cosy and welcoming, the hosts are the nicest people I know, the setting is quiet and beautiful, but never boring with wonderful views. There is so much to do and see in the area. I would highly recommend this as beautiful place to stay whilst exploring a wonderful part of England.

“The best holiday cottage on the Helford river”
Reviewed September 23, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

The house has the most beautiful view on the river. It is very peaceful, the only sounds are the cries of the birds on the water, or the occasional hum of the fishing boats putting to sea. The Kirby family live next door, and are always on hand if you need them, but they are completely unobtrusive. The house is extremely comfortable and is more like a home than a rented house. It has good beds and bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen and a beautifully cosy sitting room with a real coal fire to take the chill off Cornish evenings. You have direct access to the river, and you can rent boats or kayaks to take up the river for picnics. You can even buy fresh fish on the quay when the catch comes in. The house is full of fresh flowers from Mrs Kirby's garden, she will bake you a delicious welcome cake for your arrival and leave fresh eggs from her hens. The house is in quiet countryside, but there is good food shopping in Mawgan, and a great local restaurant and fitness club/spa at nearby Trelowaren. It is an idyllic place, and we have been holidaying there with our teenage children and friends for five years.
