We Just got back from our first trip to Cornwall and we had an amazing time staying at the Wild Air.
The place has amazing views of the harbor, probably best views in the village! (and it's a beautiful little villiage, in a great location to some of the best South Cornwall attractions with some great restaurants).
The room was great, comfortable and spottless clean.
Clare, our host is a charming lovely lady who was always willing to help and answer all of our questions and requests.
Breakfast was just perfect, freshly made by Clare. A very nice way to start the morning, sitting in the table with the other guests, getting ideas on things to do and places to visit, while clare popping over from the kitchen with her own ideas and inside information on all cornish attractions and stuff.

Upon arrival we were greeted with a host of problems our host was having, This establishment runs for the convenience of the owner and not the. The rules for staying are fairly well laid out and if you deviate from them expect to be told that you must expect to be chastised accordingly. If you then dare to leave an honest comment in the guest book that critiques the establishment you can then expect a diatribe of emails from the host explaining all your short comings as a guest.

The views are excellent and Mevagissey is a wonderful place which will visit again, however, I will look for better accommodation where the guests comfort and relaxation is paramount to the owner. Also noted wallpaper started peeling and heavy condensation in the room we had.

scareyCornwall, Owner at Wild Air Guest House, responded to this reviewResponded 3 May 2012

There is generally very little benefit for a business owner to respond to a negative review, but given that we currently have 153 positive reviews open minded readers of Trip Advisor will be able to see that this reviewer has vindictively and unjustifiable marked us down and it is a cheap shot at trying to discredit our business, more so since these guests stayed here 8 months ago. But I will address their comments.

Not sure what the host of problems were that they mention? They arrived 1½ hours later than they had advised due to an accident en-route and I found them to be rather off, which was understandable under the circumstances, their 1st night was pretty much lost which was a great pity for them so it clearly wasn’t a good start to their break.

We do not have any rules here.

These guests did not have the common courtesy to discuss any issues they had face to face with me, instead they left comments in our visitors’ book as they were leaving. In response I emailed them say I was sorry that they were unhappy, to which they replied telling me they were going to do a review, a rather spineless way to deal with things I feel.

There is no peeling wallpaper at Wild Air and has not been any since we purchased it in 1999 and set about refurbishing it, which is being done continuously, so not sure why reviewer would lie about such a thing. In 2010 all rooms had new oak furniture, bedding, curtains, carpets, 2 bathrooms were re-fitted and rooms are re-decorated on an annual basis, something I doubt most households do. Equally we do not suffer from condensation problems – I assume he means the double glazed unit, of which the seal had broken down trapping moisture inside (yes, things like that happen I am afraid) and has since been replaced.

We have in fact been accredited with a 5 star grading by Visit England, but declined this as we had been warned of getting ‘professional whingers’ such as these guests. We had our annual inspection less than 3 weeks after these guests stayed here and the assessor stayed in the same room, her report is a far cry from their comments.

We are justifiably proud of our grading and awards which we have held since 2008, they are not given out lightly and are only given to exceptionally good accommodation, but we are also open to fair criticism, but the scores given here and total lies are completely ridiculous and readers of this review compared to the others we have will see this for themselves. You do not get a 4 star grading with a gold award from a professional assessor if you give the kind of facilities/service they are suggesting!

It is quite ironic that some of our ‘regulars’ are staying this week who were also here at the same time as the reviewer, I have shown them the review and their response is unprintable and it would be totally unprofessional of me to relay their personal views and observations of this couple!

Mevagissey is indeed a wonderful place and we have many excellent B&B’s run by hard working owners striving to keep all guests happy, but unfortunately as they say there is always one. Lucky for me I will not be having these guests back, but I pity my fellow associates if they should stay with them.

My guests and anyone who knows me are more than aware of how much I adore my own holidays and I am totally committed to ensuring my guests have the holiday they want and expect. We are extremely fortunate that we have had some wonderful guests who are more than happy with what is provided here; many returning annually and more, our reviews, guest book plus many thank you cards and letters confirm this. Unfortunately for us, these guests, along with another similar couple were here at the same time and are the guests every hotelier dreads, but thankfully get very infrequently.

Sadly it appears certain types of guests enjoy finding fault however minor or trivial, and airing their grievances to the world on Trip Advisor attempting to ruin businesses and causing great upset to the owner gives them some sort of kick.

The Guest House is immaculate throughout, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Claire and Mike are cordial hosts and quickly become friends with their visitors nothing is too much trouble and they are always available with help and advice. Their full English breakfast is awesome! The ensuite bedrooms have every available facility, tea, coffee and biscuit. Lovely easy shower !! The relaxed environment made for a very comfortable stay." We will be back

Room Tip: seaview is a must

We stayed in Room 2 for 3 nights and the morning view over the bay and harbour was magnificent. The room was immaculate and no faults found. The walk down to the village is easy as it's all downhill but the less fit or ambient person may find the walk back up a bit of a slog however it's worth it !!
Great retaurants in the village but book in advance to avoid disappointment particularly at the School House, Voovrays or Salamander. Lots of pubs on the harbour front offering good food but a bit too loud for us. Breakfast at Wild Air is nice and sets you up for the day. It's a small dining room just seating the 6 residents however it was a nice way to meet the other guests and the fayre on offer was nice.

Room Tip: Rooms 2 and 3 are upstairs, room 3 seems to be the favourite however whilst larger the bathroom is s...

We had a short (3 night) Honeymoon in September at Wild Air. The B & B offers superb value for money. The room we had (no.3) was tastfully decorated and the bed was soooo comfortable with stunning views over the bay and Mevagissey harbour. The welcome was warm and friendly, nothing was to much trouble for Clare. Her knowledge of the local area and Cornwall in general was second to none. There was an excellent choice for breakfast, which well and truly set us up for the day. The close proximity of many local attractions i.e. The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Helligan etc. make this an ideal base to explore from. Would we return to Wild Air? ohhhhhh yesssss!

Room Tip: Ask for room 3, the view is absolutely stunning!

A lovely house in a spectacular position with views of the sea and Mevagissey harbour. The room was completely comfortable (especially the bed!) the bathroom was spacious and warm and everything was decorated with taste and care. Breakfasts were varied and generous. Lots of pictures, mostly with a sea and ships theme, some painted by Mike. Above all we enjoyed the friendly attention of Clare and her husband and the warmth of their welcome. This is an exceptionally fine Bed and Breakfast establishment.

We are from Germany and we love Cornwall and it's wonderful places very much. Last year my wife and me stayed four days at Wild Air in May and as we parted we promised to come back someday. And someday was one year later in September. We were attended by our daughter and her husband and everything was wonderful again: At first CLARE and her helpfulness, her good tips where to go (lovely St Just in Roseland church), her gentleness and the way she fulfills wishes in cooking a tremendous breakfast. Then an absolute fab location overlooking Mevagissey and clean and comfortable rooms. Over all Wild Air is a place to enjoy, to feel good and a place where you can relax, too.
We also met a very nice couple at the breakfast tabel ervery morning and had lovely, funny conversations. So the new day starts with good ideas and feelings.
We all had a great time and would recommend this place for erveryone. We come back again.
