Cape Byron lighthouse is a must-see stop if you are in Bryon Bay. It has become an icon tourist spot being at the most easterly point of Australia and shining a light over Byron Bay. The lighthouse was built at the turn of the century and was built to protect ships passing along the coast. It is automated and can clearly be been seen from the township of Bryon Bay.
There are car parks at the top as well as a cafe, small gift shop and toilet. If you feel up for a walk, park down the bottom and walk up.
The lighthouse is great to see, however, the main attraction has to be the amazing views of the ocean out to the hinterland and coast where you regularly see humpback whales, turtles and dolphins which we were lucky to see that day.
If you are feeling alittle more adventurous there are loads of walking paths around the surrounding coastline so make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

The light house is in pristine condition and has some old accommodation which are now rental cottages. There's also a small museum detailing the build and some detail around some of the history of the surrounding area

A good mornings walk ( the earlier, the better ) as we set off from Lawson Parade in Byron Bay and work our way up along the boardwalk that follows the road up to the Byron Bay Lighthouse. As the gradient increases, the pace slows and we take time to enjoy the views back onto Byron Bay township. The Lighthouse now comes in to view and as we ascend towards this iconic landmark, Australia's most Eastern mainland point, we are rewarded with a wonderful feeling of achievement, to be standing here, enjoying the most wonderful and spectacular views. Simply breathtaking, we take our time before our descend down towards Wategos beach and onto Byron Bay beach for the final leg back to Byron Bay township for a well earned fruit juice. What a great start to the day..............
