We were disappointed with out visit to Lord Howe Island. We were left feeling that the locals did not want us there. The shops prices were extravagant - three times what you would pay in a corner store on the mainland. Restaurant prices were double. The walking tracks were good but the information supplied did not reflect the difficulty of each walk. The scenery was beautiful. Seeing the fish up close on Neds Beach was good. Accommodation was not value for money - small things like providing shampoo and conditioner would be appreciated. And soap that lathers - the water is very hard. We were disappointed that the "Historical Movie" as advertised did not happen and about 25 people waited patiently but to no avail. No one on the island could provide a reason for the no show and did appear to care. Ticked the bucket list but not value for money.

There is such a vast array of walking trails on Lord Howe Island to cater for all different standards. All walks have amazing views and so much amazing plant and animal life to see. Grab a map and do as many walks as you can and make the most of your time. My personal favorite is the Kims lookout walk as you get to see a stunning view of the island from the top. Enjoy!

Had 2w visit there, hiked many trails; not including Mt Gower. Not crowded, generally easy footing, but some are steeper than others. Bring good footwear.

This is a delight to walkers...trails to terrific...and I mean that it can be deadly if you choose to go there..there is one part of the mountain that you climb by rope! However WOW!

My wife is on the sportsy side, I'm not. I got tired and she did not loose her smile.

The view (various viewpoints everywhere) is great since you go to several high viewpoints. But this also means that you have to be prepared to climb hundreds of steps to get anywhere.

Sometimes, you'll have to search before you can find the trail (specially at the entry point). More than what the locals will optimistically announce ("no way you can miss the entry!"). But it's mostly OK if you have a rough map to guide you.
