I have eaten at this restaurant before, but this last time it was extraordinary! I think the chef is different from before and brought out some very impressive starters, dinners and dessert! Service was great as always!

We have been attending the Mountain Playhouse performances for years. In the past this also included dinner at Green Gables which is located next to the playhouse. We stopped dining here because of a slight decline in the food; however, after giving the resturant another try, we are back on board.

Altough the prices are slightly high, the food is good and inovative.

I would recommend dinner here.

This is one of the most romantic wedding venues you will find in western PA. The staff was wonderful, had an eye for detail, and very accommodating. Any question you have, they have the answer. The food was perfect, we had salmon and prime rib and organic vegetables from there gardens. If I had to describe the feel of Green Gables, I would call it rustic elegance. Our officiant told us afterwards that she had performed many weddings but this was the most beautiful one she has done. My second daughter already told me this is where she is getting married when that day comes. I can not say enough good things, it surpassed my expectations.

awful...no air conditioning...overpriced...steak was flavorless and not prepared as requested...waitress was rude...the bread was chewy...the building and setting are lovely, but it was way too hot and we will never go again

We dined at Green Gables for the first time this weekend when we drove out to see the Kevin Kutz exhibit at the Mountain Playhouse gallery.

it was unusually hot for sw PA this weekend and the restaurant is not air conditioned, so while they had several stand fans going, it was warm while waiting to be seated. (Make a reservation if there's a play that evening--we didn't and had to wait.) Once in the cooler, darkish garden setting of the dining room it was much more comfortable. Tables are well-spaced and everyone has a nice view of the garden. The Frank Lloyd Wright-ish sculptural lamps are lovely and striking.

At these prices so far from the city, we would have expected more consistent service. While our server was fine, there was just a little something off--things like, "Did you want anything else?" after we looked at the dessert menu. On the other hand, the young lady pouring water and bussing was professional and polished, remembering that my husband requested frequent refills of water. We had to request bread, but when it arrived with seasoned butter it was delicious. Again, no deal-breakers, but at $36 for a filet the service needs to be more polished.

The food was excellent. His filet was perfectly cooked and as tender as could be. My crab stuffed flounder was as pretty as it was tasty. We shared the hot iron cold shrimp as an appetizer and it was very nicely prepared with just the right amount of kick.

You couldn't possibly have trouble finding an interesting beer from their dazzling list of US and foreign list. The wine list was also impressive, although very overpriced.

Would we choose Green Gables again? Yes, for a special occasion or night out with friends to see a show. But hopefully on a cooler evening.
