We have been to longwood at the holidays for a truly beautiful experience and one that would put any grinch into the Christmas spirit. We have also been in the spring and summer which is absolutely breathtaking. We have always had our boys with us (ages 4 and 9) and they love it too, especially the children's garden and tree houses. One note if visiting at Christmas though: Go early in the season to avoid peak crowds. We arrived early afternoon to see some concerts and stroll through the gardens and conservatory and planned to leave as it was getting dark so we could see the lights. It was beautiful and a well thought out plan as it was not super crowded when we were there but streams of people coming in as it got closer to dusk.

go, if you've never been then go. If you went years ago on a school trip, then go back. You won't regret it.

If you have any spare time at all, you will be glad you took the time for a trip to Longwood. The expansive gardens, varieties of trees, wondrous Conservatory (and its pipe organ if you are lucky) and delightful children's garden are world class and memorable.
