Great location for PNC park but hotel is tired and worn

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 22, 2024via mobile
We came in to town to watch the Phillies play the Pirates and the location cannot be beat.

Pros:
Location, location, location to PNC park
Free breakfast
Pool and gym
Easy Uber ride from airport
Front desk staff were helpful
Common areas are bright and cheerful

Cons:
The hotel rooms are very worn. Our suite had crud on the faucets, worn away patching in the bathroom and caked on dirt in various corners. It wasn’t an issue with housekeeping. The room was surfaced clean but needed to be, at the very least, deep cleaned. The rooms could definitely benefit from a refurbishing.
We had a view of PNC park from our room but it was clouded by the dirty windows.

It’s obvious that you pay for the location but was really disappointed in the condition of the rooms for a Marriott hotel.

I stayed here for a business event. The hotel appears nice in the common spaces, but my room had stale smelling sheets, pillows & towels and mold in the shower and along the sink! When using the patio outside in the evening, we saw mice scurry under the building!
Also homeless people wonder around outside the front & parking lot going through trash.
The girl Kara, at the front desk was so rude and condescending I don’t know how she works in hospitality! She was anything but hospitable and was confrontational with me upon checkout! I would not stay here again even for the location! There are other better hotel choices downtown!

Room tip: Budget hotel with a luxury price!

I am a Lifetime Titanium Elite member with over 1500 lifetime nights. I hate to write this review, but Marriott Upper Management needs to take a hard look at the condition of their Residence Inn properties. My wife and I prefer to stay in Residence Inns as we like the configuration of the rooms. Unfortunately, we are not likely to continue this trend.
The Residence Inn Pittsburgh North Shore is a nice hotel in a great location. The front desk personnel were pleasant and friendly. Using my suite night credits, we were upgraded to a two bedroom suite for our two night stay. Pion entering the room, it was extremely cold. The thermostat said 78 degrees and it was over 90 degrees outside. I turned the thermostat off, hoping that the room would warm up. That evening, my wife sat around wrapped in a blanket. The tv in the king bedroom didn’t work and the pump on the body wash was broken. Also, there were not any water glasses in the cabinets.
I reported the tv and the body wash and glass issues the next morning. When we got back the next evening, the tv had been fixed, that’s all.
The upholstery on the sofa was torn and the furniture was in bad shape.
I reported all of these issues upon checkout the next morning. I hope that someone does something about them. This hotel does not deserve to carry the Marriott brand.

Great location to attend a Pirates game next door, but, check in was a nightmare. Took 1 ½ hours on a Friday night to check in - 4pm, no exceptions!!!! A Pirates game was at 6. Traffic was crazy, there is no place to park waiting for check in (only a small cul de sac for 4 / 5 cars) Once checked in, you get a pass for the gated parking lot – hard to get by cars stacked up waiting to check in. Cars were backed up on the road on both sides, blocking Pirate traffic, unsafe. In closing, I’ve traveled a lot and it’s never taken 1 ½ hours to check into a hotel, crazy.

Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. When we got to our room we discovered the air conditioner wasn't working and we were missing a TV remote, but two employees arrived within the hour and handled both.

Our space (a two room suite with a king bed) was suitable for our needs. We recently stayed in a king room in NYC and by comparison this place was practically a house.
The place was clean, no noticeable stains, dirt, dust, etc. The kitchen was adequately stocked with plates, cups, and cookware, and the fridge was ice cold. I was surprised to find relatively close parking in the private lot despite being there during three Pirates' games and Anthrocon. The breakfast was decent, and the staff was friendly.

My small list of nitpicks:
- I wish the kitchen had a toaster and an actual coffee pot (or a Keurig)
- The TVs had just a few streaming options (Netflix, Prime, and Pluto) and either I didn't know how to cast or the TVs didn't have that option.
- While they did thankfully fix our A/C, it did struggle to maintain an admittedly cold setting (in its defense it was in the 90s the entire time)
- Maybe it was just our fridge, but the ice machine didn't work in the freezer and we used the one ice cube tray quickly each day (because, again, over 90 out).

Incredible location and we got a good rate because there was no baseball game happening. The hotel is pretty new and very close to lots of tourist driven restaurants. The check in agent was super helpful in orienting me to the area and offered two room orientation options to choose from. I don't remember their name but they were very welcoming and gave me a lot of good information for a quick one night stay including a dinner recommendation that we really enjoyed.
The beds were ok, probably standard for the brand and the rooms were very spacious. The room we were in needs a new toilet kit, though, it makes a very high pitch noise as the tank refills. I think we were in 701 and I forgot to tell them when we checked out.
the breakfast area is big and well organized and the coffee was the best I had at any of the hotels we'd stayed at along our week long road trip!

Room tip: One side of the hotel overlooks the stadium and the other the interstate. I was super tired so the noise didn't bother my sleep.
