We spent all day here and still didn't see everything. But we really enjoyed the exhibitions that we did have time for. Favorites included the new exhibit on the Heinz company, the collection of carpenter's planes, glassmaking in western PA, and the history of innovation in Pennsylvania. There's lots of stuff for kids as well as adults scattered throughout. My advice is to carefully consider all of the current exhibitions when you arrive, and then prioritize your time according to your personal interests. Before you start, be sure to take a few minutes to read about the history of this amazing building (look for the signboard in an alcove near the first-floor elevator); it's amazing how the building functioned when it was an ice warehouse, with trains coming through on the ground floor and horses stabled on the fourth floor! There is a cafe onsite with lots of drinks and some pre-made sandwiches and salads if you need a break.

It's been years since I've been to the History Center and they have really stepped up their game since the last visit. Besides the excellent Pittsburgh Sports and Glass exhibits, it has expanded the Heinz exhibit and added a several other displays. The section on Pittsburgh's 90 neighborhoods (and Mr. Roger's Neighbrhood) is absolutely awesome. The Pittsburgh Tradition of Innovation is also excellent. There are also exhibits on "From Slavery to Freedom", "Clash of Empires", and "Lewis and Clark". I didn't check out the 'hands-on' "Discovery Place" or "Kidsburgh" because my kids ae grown now, but the Great Hall is always fun. Go between Nov 18th 2017 and Jan 15, 2018 and you'll catch "A Very Merry Pittsburgh". I used the think admission was a little high, but I spent all day there while my wife had jury duty, and I still didn't get to see everything. Great Pittsburgh attraction. I even had a pretty good and inexpensive snack at the on-site cafe.

This eclectic museum covers so much of Pittsburgh history - including that of Senator Heinz as well as all varieties of professional sports. We had some private time due to attending an evening reception; however, I would likely return during normal hours as well.
