Very nice hotel and convenient location

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 25, 2021
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The checkin and checkout process was easy with the Hilton app. This is one of the cleanest hotels I ever stayed at. The nice thing about this hotel is that it’s walking distance to a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and milkshake factory. Also close to tourist sites, like Andy Warhol museum, incline, etc.

We stayed while visiting town for a Pirates game. The walk t the stadium is easy and lively. The location in Market Square puts you right in the heart of the city within walking distance to all North Shore (who doesn't love walking across the Clemente Bridge!?!?) and other attractions like PPG plaza fountains where the ice skating rink is during the winter. We got up on a Sunday morning and had a fun stroll around the city.
The hotel was also very clean and the room was comfortable with a really nice shower. However, we encountered a problem using the elevator upon arrival. We checked in using the Digital Key (which seemed preferred by the hotel), but could not get it to work in the elevator. I have read this in other reviews also. While this doesn't seem like a huge deal, it was because a wedding party/guests were filling the lobby when we checked in making everything that much slower. The parking is very convenient. While $30 a night seems steep, I felt our car was safe and the parking garage elevator is connected to the hotel, so it was easy. I was frustrated that the hotel website advertised the Revel restaurant opening at 7am on Sunday, when in reality it did not open until 10am for Brunch. My only other complaint was the change in Hilton gold member rewards. The reward is no longer continental breakfast, but a flat rate you can spend anytime of day. This may actually work out better for some, but I had a hard time getting answers from the front desk staff on what the reward covered. And, I had to make a call days later to get the money credited because it did not automatically occur. I would have never known if I didn't check my cc statement. That is really annoying. However, the hotel staff I spoke to was very accommodating and fixed the mistake immediately.

Room tip: Higher rooms have great views if facing Market Square

After booking a very shady Pittsburgh Plaza Hotel in Greentree I was so happy to move to this hotel. It was clean with great safety features. The staff was professional. Such a fun location in the heart of Pittsburgh!

I highly recommend the place. However, I would just make a few different choices for us.

The pros. Location x 3! You are near everything positive cities have to offer like bars, restaurants, entertainment & museums. Places are beginning to re-open as the Covid-19 pandemic loosens it's gripe. The hotel staff is still, as they should be, in protective mode. Parts of the hotel are still closed-read the latest. Ask. Bring a face mask. Rules may change but I would prefer to have one and not need it than the opposite. There are hand sanitizer stations everywhere you could possibly need one. I love places that have Keurig coffee pots. I wish they would mention that on their web pages. Then I would bring my favorite K-cup and not rely on them to scratch my personal preference.

The cons. Instead of selecting our room I opted to have the HHonors App select for me. Huge mistake. We paid for a corner room with 2 Queen beds, sort of an upgrade. There could not be a crappier corner room, view wise, than room #422, the room the App selected. Mind you, the hotel was mostly empty. Don't let the App chose your room is the lesson I learned. DIY from the options provided via electronic check in. The other crappy, intended pun, thing about the room is the height of the toilet, about 13 "H, if my iPhone measurement tool is accurate. If you are over 50, overweight, or have bad knees a 13" toilet seat height is uncomfortably low. I know it doesn't have to be ADA compliant, which is about 16" H, because we didn't request an ADA type room. However, you may want to ask for an ADA type room if you have any physical issues that makes sitting this low on a toilet seat uncomfortable.

Room tip: The view from room #422 is crappy for an upgraded corner room price. Avoid it.

Walking distance away from major sights. Clean. Friendly staff. Convenient parking. The coffee in the room, the fridge and the microwave were huge perks. We will stay at this hotel again. Pittsburgh is a wonderful city.
