Really delicious pizza with lots of flavor. Thin crust was crispy and was great. The pizza is expensive compared to your local pizza place. But your local pizza shop doesn’t make pizza like this. Didn’t mind paying the extra money for the toppings, overall great dining experience.

Tomato pie is a regional pizza style with its roots in Trenton New Jersey. Unlike tradition pizza, the cheese is placed on the crust and then heaping tablespoons of rustic tomato sauce are placed on the cheese. The tomato flavor is intense and unlike any other pizza variety.

Delorenzos Tomato Pies recently opened up in Yardley, PA branching out from their NJ location. The restaurant is clean, service attentive and fast, and the pizza? Well it’s sublime.

They have a selection of toppings but it really needs nothing other than their tomato sauce. The pizza crust stays crisp and holds up to the sauce unlike traditional pizza that needs to be folded.

Excellent pizza from a storied Trenton pizza restaurant.

We went on a Thursday afternoon, around noon. We got there just in time as most of the tables were filled by 12:30. Busy, but not crowded.

Our server was attentive and quick. He came back to our table a few times to check that we were okay. He did a nice job.

The pizza was very good, however nothing exceptional. There is a pizza shop closer to our home that serves the same type of pizza and is just as good. Overall, we were very pleased, but not ‘wowed’ with the plain pizza we ordered.

Be prepared to wait for your pizza to arrive at your table. This info is noted on their menu. And to pay $1.75 for basil on that pizza. We thought that was outrageous since basil is standard on some pizzas. But hey, it’s their place. They can charge whatever they want. I just won’t buy it.

What we weren’t happy about was the pizza we ordered that we were taking home to be baked later for another family member. We requested it to be 1/2 baked. What we got was a fully baked pizza, with a little burnt crust, in a pizza box labeled “1/2 baked.” ??? We just took it and left.

While we were waiting for our fully baked, 1/2 baked pizza to arrive, the customer next to us received his plain pizza. Unfortunately, he sent it back since it was badly burned all around the edges. Black. Black. Black. This customer was so upset since this exact same thing happened to him before on a prior visit. When we left, he was still waiting on his pizza.

Sadly, all I recall of our trip there is our overcooked pizza and the black crust of that guy’s pizza. And I mean black.

It was a huge mistake on the manager, expediter and chef’s part to allow those pizzas to leave the kitchen. No customer should have ever received them. I’m just an average cook, but I would never serve my guests burnt chicken, beef or any other item with black around the edges. Would you? They’ve been in operation for well over 120 days at this point. They should know better.

Finally decided to try it and was fearful of the long wait rumors. We got right in on a Sunday. Pizza was delicious and the tomato salad superb!! Service was fair but overall a great time and will definitely go back.
