Mom and two grown daughters covered historic Charleston in four days and fell for this portion of the city with no reservations. What we loved: Our hotel, great advice, good location, lot of little touches that added so much to our visit like wine and cheese in evening, continental breakfasts delivered to room or outdoor terrace, atrium coffee and pastries, water bottles supplied, an umbrella when we needed it, wonderful beds. In addition, Charleston has really outstanding restaurants at every turn, absolutely beautiful homes and landscaping, history everywhere, a beautifully developed water front and plenty of shopping. Complaints: We arrived on the weekend of two large events (10K race and Garden Festival) which caused the trolleys to be absent, We saw very few cabs and walked our feet off but absorbed the beauty of historic Charleston and definitely want to go back soon.

Room Tip: We chose the historic section because we had three women in one room and needed a lot of space. We...

The HarbourView Inn is a very nice property with a great location. Right in the middle of the Historic District within walking distance of all the major attractions. The staff was very friendly, helpful and eager to address any need. I'd highly recommend one of their top floor rooms with the balcony. The room comes with free continental style breakfast delivered each morn and sitting on your own private balcony viewing the harbor is a perfect way to start each day. Really helps at night to to have a place to sit and have a cocktail and enjoy the view. Take the "bike taxi" for short trips (Fort Sumter tour) etc. They will pick you up at the hotel door if you call. I recommend "Ryan" - 843.437.8562 - very informative and helpful - $5.00 per person. Eat at "Hanks" - very good. The Carriage rides are great to get City overview but one warning - each route is determined by a route lottery after you pay. You will get one of three routes determined by a lottery when you pull up to the kick off point. If you want to see the entire city - you will have go 3 times !

Room Tip: Get the balcony room. Sleep with the doors open and listen to the fountain.

Even though my view from my room was the electric power station, I stayed in the room very little. Charleston is a walking city and that is what you should do. Continental breakfast is just right to begin you day and get out. You want to get out to sample the great restaurants in Charleston as well as the shopping and historical sites. There is a Trolley stop next to the Inn. This is free and will give you a great tour of the city without the commentary. Also used the bike "taxis" to get to a specific location. Staff is wonderful--friendly and very helpful. Rooms are extremely clean. Take the Bulldog Culinary Tour. Not too much walking.

Even though this Hotel is on a corner with the street that separates tho part of the city form the harbor, and we had a view room, trees and a building across the street obscured most of out view of the water. We had a good view of the fountain at the entrance to the public viewing pier and we walked over there and enjoyed great views of the harbor and of people enjoying the views. The Hotel has no restaurant, and compensates somewhat for this by serving tea at 3, wine and cheese at 5 and hot cookies at 9. They also serve everyone breakfast in their room featuring some excellent pastries from a bakery in town. No egg dishes however. They advise one to walk around the neighborhood and choose a place to eat dinner from the many choices that are available. That proved to be a very good plan. Topping dinner off with a gelato from the gelato store on the street side of the Hotel is an excellent idea. The room was fine, but the choice of channels on the TV was extremely limited.

Room Tip: Harbor side rooms are the best choice, but only those on the top floor have a chance of seeing over...

I am actually originally a Charleston native and planned this trip for my husband to get to experience the town in which I grew up. Think I actually had even more fun than him. Can't imagine a better stay than we had. Every staff member was pleasant, helpful, and professional. We did the Cooper River Bridge Run and they prepared snacks for us in the morning and did everything possible to ensure that we had a good weekend. This hotel provided the best mix between quiet and romantic and within walking distance to all the action. I would recommend this as a "must stay" for all my friends who inquire about Charleston.

Room Tip: If at all possible go for the harbourview with balcony, it's spectacular

Highlight of recent three night stay at The Harborview was the interested and genuinely concerned staff. When we first arrived and were taken to our room on the second floor in the back of the hotel we were surprised by the view of an electric power station -- it is right behind the hotel. Our bellhop was surprised we hadn't been told this would be our view and asked the woman at the front desk to see if other rooms were available. Fortunately we were moved to a room in the front of the hotel. Rooms are fine, breakfast, fine. Staff and location excellent.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not in a room facing the electric power station.

DH and I recently spent three nights at the Harbourview - we enjoyed our stay.
Some observations:
1. Location in the city- this is what we best like about the Harbourview as we were within walking distance of many fabulous restaurants, shops, the market, etc.
2. Staff - everyone was very polite and friendly; we especially like the valet guys and the lovely girl who brought us our breakfast each morning.
3. Room - our room was on the 4th floor (no water view); very quiet and close to the roof top area - we enjoyed the sunset one evening there; nice size bedroom and bath; very clean; housekeeping did a nice job daily; declined turn down service the first day (didn't receive it the other days but really didn' count on it); like other reviewers, we loved the bed; table in room was a bit small especially when we ate our breakfast in the room (as many others do), desk chair was especially uncomfortable - was just a regular chair with padded seat (with little to no padding) and not a "desk" chair that so many other hotels have (adjustable seats/wheels).
4. Food - no restaurant on site (not a problem for us); enjoyed the wine and cheese one night - we weren't in the hotel the other two nights; got cookies one night; daily breakfast was very nice (had it brought to our room) - coffee was hot and delicious, fresh fruit (melon, orange, and blueberries) was plentiful though would have like some variation (i.e. a few slices of strawberry or a few rasberries or grapes) - the same for three days got to be boring; the pastries very tasty.
Overall - this was an expensive hotel; we felt we got "our monies worth" and we'd probably stay here again.
