This was our first time to stop over in Columbia. The city is very clean and easy to get around in. We were disappointed in the breakfast we were served. The internet stated a scrumptious breakfast so our expectations were pretty high. Instead we were served some fruit with yogurt on top and then scrambled eggs with bacon, no toast or biscuits, or anything else. We chose the Chesnut Cottage over the 1425 Inn because the 1425 Inn only serves a continental breakfast. I was also disappointed that we did not see Sherwood while we were there, since I had spoken to her several times and was looking forward to meeting her.

Stayed in Chestnut Cottage for one night while parents were in town to watch kids. Building was very nice. Location was good - we walked downtown with no issues. Hosts were extremely hospitable. Breakfast was very good. We stayed in Jefferson Davis room - it was well appointed, only issue was the room was right on Street and though not a real busy street we did hear the traffic regularly through the night, also heard the firehouse down the street a couple of times...

I booked one night for my mom & I at the Chesnut (I do believe it is Chesnut, not Chestnut?) Cottage Bed & Breakfast as we were passing through to see Amos Lee (awesome) at the Township Auditorium. Aside from driving through Columbia dozens of times in the past, this was our first time actually IN the city. Not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised as we pulled through the VERY quiet streets of downtown Columbia on a Saturday afternoon (apparently everybody goes up to the mall area on Saturdays...don't do that). I was greeted by Gale at the door and he showed us our room for the night. The owners and hosts, Gale & Sherwood (straight out of a fairy tale, right?), were gracious, welcoming, and helpful in making suggestions for the evening. I would HIGHLY recommend staying a night or two, at least, here if you are in town to see a show at the Township. It was a quick, easy, and safe block and a half over to the auditorium and a thousand times more nostalgic than any of the chain hotels that are closer to Five Points or the city center. The James Chesnut room was perfect for my mom and I as it has a queen bed AND a day bed in the large powder room area (with a huge Jacuzzi tub). For an older historic home, the water pressure in the shower almost knocked me sideways. Sherwood made the most delicious breakfast the next morning as we sat with Gale, chatting about traveling and watching the snow fall outside. Overall, we had a wonderful quick stay in Columbia. I would love to stay here again, but stay a bit longer to check out more of the city, the museums, and restaurants. Thank you so much, Gale & Sherwood, for your hospitality and offering such a unique B&B in Columbia. We loved it!

Room Tip: James Chesnut room has 1 queen + 1 daybed, ideal for non-couples

The location is central to exploring the city and there was a lot to enjoy during our walks.
It is a safe place to walk, and there are patrol cars watching and moving about constantly. Columbia is a clean city, and worthy of a visit if you are passing through.

The Inn is loaded with historic items, about which Gale will tell you. He is well versed in civil war history and has quite a few books you can peruse during your stay.

Breakfast is homestyle good cooking' and served by Gale and his wife. They are very nice people and if you don't enjoy their company it's your fault.

We will definitely stay here in the future.

Room Tip: talk to the innkeepers and get a feel for what you are looking for

What a nice weekend we had while we stayed at The Chestnut Cottage for Valentine's Day weekend. VERY friendly host and hostess who greeted us warmly in the parking lot. Our room was the Jefferson Davis room and it was charming and historic. Bed was extremely comfortable, nice big bathtub, nicely decorated and had good heat despite the record low freezing temperatures outside (was pleasantly non-drafty!). Hot water with good water pressure (always a bit questionable in houses as old as this one) and very close to downtown Columbia and a block away from the Township Auditorium. Breakfast was DELICIOUS! We would stay again!

Room Tip: The rooms actually inside the house are more quaint and historic
