“Good course, beat up facilities...TERRIBLE pace of play”

Owner description: Fifty-four holes of world-class golf on three 18-hole "legendary" courses: Heathland, Moorland and Parkland.
Reviewed April 24, 2018

The Legends has gone down over the years. It was once a really nice facility with 3 courses, well kept and in good repair. Hard to say that these days. I played 2 of the courses (Parkland and Heathland). Of the two, I preferred Heathland as it was in better shape. The greens on Parkland were particularly rough. The clubhouse facilities, once a strength, are now rather run down and require repair or renovation. But particularly vexing was the glacial pace of play. Rounds took over 5:30 to play...just ridiculous. And never once did a ranger come by to attempt to keep groups moving. On either course. Sad to say, but our group will be removing Legends from our rotation until conditions/pace improves. Truly disappointing.

Played the Heathland Course at The Legends and found it to be in good condition in spite of the hard winter and early spring, but found the length from the senior tees to be much too long. The course personnel are not overly friendly and did not encounter an on course ranger during my round. The hazards are not well marked so expect some surprises. The course is pretty open so wind conditions will effect your shots here more than at the other Legends courses. The greens rolled true, but were very quick the day I played. As with most Myrtle Beach courses do not expect a fast round.

Just arrived back from a 4 night/Round visit to the Legends Resort after a five year absence. Good value for the money for those looking to get away for a group golf outing. The breakfast/lunch/beer tickets were added value to the golf - carts included and the condo.
Breakfast was same day in day out and average at best - lunch was open off the menu (expanded since my last visit) and was very good - the condo we stayed in was a little worn out - clean and comfortable, but dated in look and the furniture was worn out (box spring on the beds was worn to the point of exposing the springs - burn holes in the couch - broken handle on one of the toilets) - these are privately owned condo's in the rental pool so the resort isn't responsible for the conditions.

Maid service every day was a nice touch! Over-all, not bad.

Golf - played all three courses at the resort - Moorland/Heathland and Parkland - very busy - double teed each round and not much ranger involvement in keeping groups moving (on the Heathland, stuck behind a group playing some sort of putting game involving multiple balls - resulted in a slow / frustrating round. Comments - greens on Moorland and Parkland took a beating from the harsh winter, cool spring to-date - Heathland were better - fairways and tees on all three were in great shape.
Played one off-site course - Heritage Club - very enjoyable layout - same breakfast/lunch deal and course was in awesome shape - downside, stuck behind a group of 32 regulars on their Tuesday outing - each and everyone hit two balls off the first tee which backed things up - had a later tee-time that afternoon and meant we had to rush the post round lunch to get there - the Pro-shop shouldn't allow this - regulars or not!

Comments - staff was friendly and over-all accommodating - booking was easy - range/practice facility at the resort was first-class - disappointed in the greens - but caused by nature, not by lack of attention - just horrible to putt on and didn't hold the approach shots at all.
Check-in was a nightmare - long line, only two staff handling the crowd, one of which appeared to be quite inept. Had to argue with the person checking in our group as I had arranged a payment option one way with the booking staff, and she didn't agree with it - stating "we don't do it that way" - even though it was on my reservation form (note I had paid the deposit for friends coming from out of country - rather than them having to pay me back, I had arranged to have the deposit applied to my check-in account and that the others would be charged the full amount) - after some haggling she finally relented and completed our check-in.

Ailsa Pub - great spot to gather post round or for an evening in on the resort - good specials each day and great staff - lot's of TV's, sports on TV, good selection of food/drink options.

I would come back again and hope next time that the condo has seen some "love" and mother nature provides better weather. Heritage Club, I'd play again in a heart-beat.

The courses are ok, the facilities are meh, the lunches are terrible (if you actually get to have one), tee times are always delayed (over an hour this trip...).

Legends is fine, but not good by any stretch. We ended up having to stay off campus, they almost moved us even further away this trip. Your free "lunch" will consist of a turkey sandwich on white bread. The extra course we played this time around, Heritage Club, close the kitchen before we could even attempt to get lunch at the turn. Overall, the experience is subpar. You will end up waiting to start every round, they completely overload the courses so it takes 5-6 hours to play, the greens aren't in good condition at all. Just meh overall...they could do so much more to make the experience better, but they won't. They get enough people in groups to not care.

We played Heathland and Parkland a number of times. Heathland is more open and an easier track. Parkland is longer for us Seniors 6,099. We also played Oyster Bay and Heritage. They all have the great deal with lunch and 2 drinks.
We had a little problem playing Heathland and the head Pro Matt Biddington dealt with the problem extremely well and efficiently. Each course have there own challenges and none are pushovers! We will be back next year from Canada
