Booked and stayed with a group of 10 people in four oceanfront efficiency rooms May 28-June 1, 2012.
Our flight arrived very late on Monday night, which was the last day of Bike Week. Pulled into the parking lot designated for check-in and had no problems whatsoever getting checked in. The two people at the front desk were very accommodating to get all of our rooms together in the same area.
Upon entering the room, it had a very musty smell. However, we opened the door to the balcony and let it air out a little and never noticed the smell again. The room had two queen-sized beds, a kitchenette with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, and variety of dishes and cookware. The appliances were clean and in good working condition. There was also a table and chairs, and two chairs on the balcony. At no time did we feel like the room was too small. There is plenty of room to walk and move around without feeling crowded.
Everything in the room was clean and updated. Don't book this hotel expecting five-star accommodations. It is a very strong three-star establishment with very nice employees that were informative and helpful. FYI, the household staff begin cleaning rooms fairly early. If you wish to sleep in, make sure to put out the Do Not Disturb Sign. You can also request for your room to be cleaned at a later time by informing the front desk.
The absolute best thing about this hotel was it's close proximity to the beach and surrounding area. Walk outside and you are on the beach. You can walk to at least 50 different restaurants and shops within 10 minutes, many within 5. There is plenty of entertainment to choose from if you get tired of relaxing on the beach. We rented a car due to the size of our party, but it wouldn't be necessary.
We went to one of the discount beach shops and purchased an umbrella, umbrella stand, and two chairs for about $24. We were able to use these for the four days we were there and avoid paying the $30/day rental fee on the beach. Just left them there upon check-out for the next guests to enjoy. There is a grocery store a block away where we purchased drinks and snacks to keep in the rooms--we were on a budget and this certainly helped.
We spent a day at one of the outlet shopping malls and at Broadway At The Beach. Both places were a fun way to do something different. However, the boardwalk at Myrtle Beach was very nice and we also enjoyed spending time there.
Sometimes I think people that enjoy staying at a place don't always write reviews--you just read about the misfortunes that have occurred. We have traveled extensively and would recommend the Palmetto for both couples and families. It was a great place to stay and we had a good experience there.
