I'm almost reluctant to sing the praises of this excellent hotel because I don't want to come back next year and find my spot taken!
The Island Vista has to be Myrtle Beach's best kept secret. We stayed in the three bedroom unit with four adults and four kids under 8 and there was so much room. We easily could have added another family. Everything was clean and well organized and the furniture and amenities are still very new and well looked after. The balcony was enormous and accessable from both the main living room and the master bedroom. Being a corner unit we had views of the ocean head-on, and the beach curving up towards the next cluster of hotels far, far in the distance.
And that brings me to the best part about this hotel...the location. The Island Vista was apparently rebuilt 4-5 years ago on the site of a much older establishment, so it is smack in the middle of a residential neighbourhood. The advantage to this is that even when the hotel is at maximum capacity AND it's the weekend and the locals are at the beach too, the beach in front of the hotel and to either side is wide open and spacious. If we looked up or down the strand to the clumps of hotels in the distance then we could see how crowded the beaches were, but not in front of our hotel. The hotel also has two outdoor pools and an indoor pool with lazy river and wading pool and we never found them to be overcrowded either.
In years past we used to stay in North Myrtle Beach in an effort to avoid the super crowded beaches, but it was such a long drive to come into Myrtle Beach proper for activities and restaurants. The Island Vista totally solves that problem...we were close to all kinds of activities that the kids enjoyed (especially mini golf) and there's plenty of shopping around to keep me happy too!
The hotel's excellent restaurant also has a meal plan for the duration of your stay, but we opted out because we wanted to try other places in Myrtle Beach and cook for ourselves in our room. Now that we've eaten in the restaurant we will have to give some serious thought to getting the meal plan next time...the restaurant was delicious, the service excellent, and it is super convenient to just come downstairs to your meal (we ended up eating there a few times)!
We loved the entire experience at Island Vista and I'm torn between saying that the location was the best part or the hotel itself was the best part. The only downside I can think of is that there are cheaper ways of doing a trip to Myrtle Beach, but they wouldn't be as comfortable or as conveniently located! We booked far in advance and received an early bird discount, which doesn't hurt!
We are looking forward to returning to Island Vista in the near future. What a great place!
