I took my mom to the Saluda River Grill for Mother's Day today. Although we arrived at 11:15 for Brunch, there was already a line out the door. We had to wait about 20 minutes but it was SO worth it. On Sundays, they have a Brunch Buffet. You can have breakfast and/or lunch. I sampled everything on the lunch side and everything was very good indeed. I'm used to restaurants excelling at one or two dishes and having a supporting cast of also rans. But everything that I tried was delicious. I especially liked the grilled pork chops and the strawberry shortcake.

In addition to the food, the atmosphere is very nice. This is an old restored mill so it has tons of personality. I suggest you give it a try if you visit the upstate of SC.

Interesting decor with high ceilings and exposed beams. Large open bar. My husband and I have eaten dinner here numerous times but were disappointed the last two. We ordered steak, seafood and salads. The steak and shrimp were over cooked and dry. Piedmont is more convenient to our house but I guess we'll make the trip to Greenville the next time we go out for dinner.

First off let me say I live in Piedmont and since I live there I know what a small town it is. When they first opened this restaurant last year I didn't think it would last because this is such a small town I didn't think there would be enough business to keep it open. I was wrong! People come from nearby cities to eat there. It is in an old mill that they converted into a nice restaurant. They kept the original wood floors and brick walls so it has that old charm to it. The lighting in there is so soothing and it has big windows that overlook the river. The food is fantastic! My favorite part it their Sunday brunch buffet. I have been there several times and will definitely continue to go back.

We got there early because we had heard various criticisms of the service. Waitress came right out and took drink order. Bread was cold so she replaced it with warm bread fresh out of the oven. I had the blackend catfirsh, wife had crab cakes as did friend's wife, friend had steak. All the dinners were perfect, brought to the table steaming hot.

Except for one problem ... they took almost 50 minutes to get the dinner to the table after the order was taken and not once did the waitress stop by to apologize or check with us. Only after 45 minutes did a manager colme by the table and look into our problem.

No apologies, no offer of any kind of comp ... not a good way to run a restaurant.
