Fantastic fried seafood baskets in a quaint South Carolina town off of I-95. Well worth a short side trip.

We stopped here on our way home from Hilton Head. It popped up ok our GPS and thought we'd give it a try. It's a very small unassuming building but the food it's amazing. The burgers are delicious and quite big. The fries okra was also very good. My husband got the seafood pick 3 platter with scallops, flounder and the deviled crab. The only "bad" thing he has to say was that the deviled crab was a little too mustardy. Other than that he said it was amazing. Glad we stopped here.

Order off of the blackboard with food served in a french fry boat. Sodas, ice tea, etc. for beverages. Floor fans to circulate the air and/or to dehumidify. Adequate parking outside with as many tables as possible inside. Appears to be an efficient family business. I must say the food was good, seasoned nicely and served in a timely manner.

Cheap food that has been frozen and fried
Not done, smelly and just terrible
You have to be starving to even considering eating there.

A very unassuming seafood place on Main Street in Ridgeland. Don't ask for menus as there are none. Just look up at the chalkboard above the registers to decide what to eat. Besides oysters, crab legs, fish, shrimp and scallops, they also serve burgers.

I was craving some crab so went for the a la carte two cluster serving. For $12.99, this was the best price in the area. I decided to add on an order of fries and my partner got the shrimp basket which also came with potatoes and two hush puppies.

I was truly impressed when my snows arrived. These were big full clusters packed with tender meat. There was a light sprinkling of seasoning on the legs, which I never add, as they can sometimes be over seasoned during the initial cooking of the seafood (all crab legs have to be cooked before being shipped to stores and restaurants). In some Asian restaurants, you will see tanks with live Dungeness or King crab. But it is a rare occasion.

Whoever supplies Fiddler's does it right. There was just a slight hint of saltiness to the actual meat, so the seasoning on the shell added a perfect little punch. They also served the legs with clarified unsalted butter, which is the perfect accompaniment to let the sweetness of the meat shine through.

My partner's shrimp were small, but so fresh and crunchy. The fries do come out of a bag, but they were quite tasty just woefully under fried. Sadly, no one wants a limp, pale, spud. For dessert, the key lime parfait evoked the perfect pucker and was a most appropriate ending to a great seafood lunch in the low country.

Do visit their market around the corner from their restaurant. This is the ONLY place we have found in the Bluffton, Beaufort and Hilton Head areas that actually sold consistently sized wild shrimp. In other markets, they will advertise xtra large or jumbo but when you go to clean them, you realize that the range of sizes in what they sell within these categories can go from pinky finger size to thumb size. At Fiddler's Market, the big, plump shrimp were perfect and only $9.99/pound. Thanks Fiddlers.
