My husband and I stayed one night at this dump over Labor Day weekend. I seriously don't know how anyone could find something positive to write about the place, other than the owners perhaps. It's cheap, but there are multiple reasons for that.

First of all, the hotel is entirely pre-fabricated construction. Yes, folks, it's just a big trailer! Each time a door would close anywhere in the building, our room walls would literally shake and the windows rattle. We could clearly hear conversations and the TV in the next room. The room itself was gross dirty, dingy and small. I immediately removed the questionable bedspread upon entering the room and wished I had gloves so I wouldn't have to touch it. The smoke detector was broken and hanging from wires from the ceiling. There were extensive safety precautions highlighted in the guest information booklet provided in the room, which more than suggested multiple problems with crime in and around the hotel. Easy to imagine considering the seedy appearance of the majority of hotel guests.

Finally, the location is terrible. Absolutely the furthest accommodations from downtown Deadwood.

The hotel had charged our credit card immediately upon booking and we were unable to cancel the room. My husband and I were seriously considering forfeiting the money and finding other accomodations but we were tired and figured we could put up with anything for one night. On the other hand, the experience will give us something to laugh about in the years to come.

We offer FREE ROOM INSPECTION prior to check-in so there is no reason for a guest to be so dissatisfied with their lodging.
As for crime, Deadwood is lower than the national average, for 2006-2008 the index was about 170-180 while the national average is slightly above 300. Last year it was up a little to 243 but is still below the average. (Google Deadwood City-Data) As for looking "seedy", we would respectfully disagree with this reviewer.
As for construction, the rooms are small as mentioned but well constructed and well insulated. Most of our repeat guests really do not mind the small rooms as they say, they just "need a place to sleep when they come to Deadwood."

We made a last minute discision to go to the Black Hills for the Labor Day weekend so our choices of places to stay was quite limited and ended up at the Black Hills Inn, Deadwood. The room was extremely small. Rather than a little table beside the bed, that was where the sink and mirror were located. The shower and toilet were in a seperate tiny room without so much as a hook for your clothing while you showered. The bed was hard, the pillows flat. The bedding seemed clean but the rest of the room was not. Our non-smoking room had cigarette burns on the bathroom floor. The fan in the bathroom and the air conditioner were both extremely loud. The amenities say they have an ice machine and that is probably true because you can buy a bag of ice for $3. We were told that the trolley came every 20 minutes and would take us downtown. That 20 minutes extended into an hour because this hotel is on the end of the route and if the trolley was full it wouldn't come. The one nice amenity that they offer is rags to clean your motorcycle or auto. There is no hair dryer so bring one unless you like wet hair.

The Deadwood Trolley stays to a predetermined schedule which we have no control over. During the year the schedule changes or if there is a special event with street closings or parades, the trolley may be delayed. Our location makes no difference to Deadwood Trolley service, the events affect all hotels similarly.

Old, dirty, tiny room. The bathroom was also tiny with a metal shower stall from the '60s.
No sink in the bathroom, it was conveniently located next to the bed! The room also had a funky odor and a scenic view of weeds which were high enough to cover the lower part of the window. Next time I will stay in a name brand hotel.

Nestled into the hillside of historical Deadwood, South Dakota, tthe Black Hils Inn and Suites was a delightful find for our stay in the Black Hills area on our way to Yellowstone. It is perfectly situated on the quite outskirts of Deadwood yet close enough to partake in any events occurring in the downtown.area just moments awwy. An open-air trolley is available to transport guests to and from the downtown area for a nominal fee of $1. The bubbling stream flowing through the property upon entry only adds to the peaceful atmosphere of this hotel. We were so pleased with our stay, that we arranged to stay again on our return trip from Yellowstone back to MN. The complimentary breakfast was substantial and offered something that appealed to everyone in our party. Breadfast guests were friendly and pleasant, sharing travel experiences with others. I was impressed to hear several guests say they had stayed at this Inn before and some multiple times. I can understand why - it is comfortable and welcoming. Owners and staff are friendly and accomodating, the pool and hot tub area is clean and well kept. Our two stays at the Inn included the kitchenette suite (very large and comfy) and a room with two double beds upon our return trip. Both were immaculate and tidy - this is a quaint inn that pases the "white" glove test!

Fortunately, we were only here for about 2 waking hours. If you plan on spending more time at your hotel, go elsewhere. It's old, dirty & small. That being said, it was cheap and worked fine for the few hours we were there. It does have a small indoor pool which is great for small kids. The breakfast is a joke and an elderly lady sneezed all over it while we were there. Yuck.
