“Amazing remote escape”
Reviewed June 28, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

You wouldn't be able to imagine how amazing in reality Ard is! The place is quiet, high standard accommodation, well equipped/stocked kitchen (wow even in my scale!), AGA stove for rainy evenings with a glass of wine. Sue Lawrence's Scottish Cookbook and local school kids Cookbook were best reads in the bookcase. There is a pile of maps, "To-Dos", books (Harris Tweed by Ian Lawson is real gem).

It’s very good start for exploring surrounding areas - Bernera (Bosta beach), Uig (bay beach, salmon smokery, Abhainn Dearg Destilery), Callanish (stones). There is no problem to do day trips through Stornoway to other parts of the island - Ness/Butt of Lewis (trail to the lighthouse), Tolsta (beach/coast trail).

We love Norma, how she took care of us! At the same time we had a privacy we would expect. Being lucky enough to have full sunny week in early May 2015, we would definitely recommend Ard as amazing "break and relax" place to enjoy beautiful scenery, wildlife, nice and kind people. All you need...

I do understand now, why almost all people are giving 5* - Norma there is nothing to be done better! ;-)

For other visitors few tips:
- get groceries/stocks in Stornoway upon arrival, hard to get anything later (quite a drive to Stornoway)
- Waterproof boots are must, even in dry days, trails are still swampy
- Paper maps are still good as there blind spots for GSM signal for digital trackers, old good sense of the direction is more than helpful :-)
- There is no "bad weather", just bad "outdoor clothes", counts double in Outer Hebrides

“Fantastic location to relax and unwind”
Reviewed June 6, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We took the chance for a week back on the Island for the first time in many years. Lewis is a great Island and the Ard is the perfect spot to explore it from. Made very welcome by Norma and Amy, the Cottage is wonderfully equipped in a fantastic location with stunning views out to sea. All the peace quiet and scenery we could hope for. If anyone is after a relaxing break with all the comforts of home I would strongly recommend you pay the Ard a visit.

“Purely magical”
Reviewed May 5, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

This cottage is wonderful, it is so peaceful, ideal if you want a break away from it all. The owner lives close by and was so helpful, without being intrusive. An extremely well stocked kitchen, like home from home, furnished to a high standard. We will be back.

“Peace and tranquility personified”
Reviewed March 11, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Stayed here in Mid February 2015 for a weekend break.
Great location and easily found from directions given at time of booking. Warm welcome from the owner Norma who guided us round the spotlessly clean and well laid out cottage. Everything you'd need and expect provided to make our stay comfortable and homely, including Sky TV and wifi.
Accommodation tastefully decorated with pictures of local views and also has an ensuite shower room and separate bathroom (with whirlpool bath) - a nice touch.
Its location makes it an ideal base to explore the West Coast of Lewis and its many historical attractions. Very close proximity to Bosta Beach (5mins) and nearby Uig sands. Both beaches we had to ourselves during our stay and luckily for us had fine weather whilst there. We were even blessed with a sighting of a Golden Eagle circling above Bosta.
The cottage has a lovely decked area and from it sea views, the crofting township of Breaclete and surrounding countryside make pleasant, tranquil viewing from its private elevated location.
A perfect getaway to discover and explore this remote area of Lewis.
It comes very highly recommended and we cannot wait to return to enjoy its quiet, peaceful luxury.

“Stunning Holiday Base”
Reviewed November 29, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Wonderful place to use as a base to explore these fantastic isles. It was our first visit to the Outer Hebrides and going in October we were prepared for the worst weather wise. The Ard holiday cottage is the perfect little oasis to stay. Friendly and helpful owners (thank you Norma) made the check in and whole experience a great week. The weather did not disappoint with lots of wind and rain but with the Jacuzzi bath to come back too who cares. The whole cottage is stuffed with modern amenities including WiFi and Sky but when you have the stunning scenery to explore these got little use. The cottage has a wood burner and heaters but again even in the storms we did not turn them on as it was very cosy all the time. Overall a great place and friendly people, but watch the driving at night those bloody sheep don't move!!!

“Gorgeous Cottage, Beautiful Location”
Reviewed October 25, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We spent one week (Sept into Oct) at The Ard and cannot praise it highly enough. The accommodation is superb and the setting is perfect...and our welcome pack of a bottle of fizz and freshly home made scones was a really lovely touch! We spent all our time exploring Bernera and the Isle of Lewis and Harris. The beaches are outstanding. Bosta beach is a short distance from the cottage and is simply stunning. There are well marked walks that even novices like us could complete and plenty of areas of interest if you want to get out and about. The owner was very welcoming and helpful with regards information about the island and advice on where to visit. We would definitely return to The Ard, one of our favourite holidays to date!
