My wife and I have been here a few time and it is worth the time, take the 45 bypass to HWY 70 turn right a go about a mile, be looking to the left or you will miss it . there is no big sign. be sure to have bug spray with you this time of the year. After you get on the board walk stay to the right to see the Owls, Hawks and Eagles and the big lake with the overlook, But if you go left at the split you will see a smell lake that is not so special, but if you keep going you will end up at the big lake and maybe see a snake or two swimming or the fish spawning.

This was a nice break in our travel. The Park walk was mostly shaded and seeing that it was also used as a healing place for different kind of birds was a plus. The walk needed some repair to it, I would be uncomfortable for small children on part of the trail.

The park is falling into disrepair. The trails is entirely via boardwalks; and some of the boardwalks are so damaged, you could easily lose your footing if you weren't looking.

However, the forest itself is pretty neat. There are three main "attractions":
1. Killdeer pond, which is kind of gross and fly-infested.
2. Wood duck lake, which is kind of interesting, especially since the boardwalk actually takes you over and across the lake.
3. Raptor trail, which is the coolest part of the park. There are large birds of prey in big cages to check out. They had a bald eagle, some hawks, and some owls when I went.

Overall, not bad. Wear bug spray.

We were happily surprised by this wonderful place but wish we would have known these three things.
1) Its slippery. I guess I should have known with all the cool boardwalks under trees in a swamp it would make for slippery conditions but I just wasn't thinking. It isn't unsafe - just make sure your kids don't run, and you are prepared with good shoes.
2) Its a long walk. How far does the boardwalks go..... we have no idea, we ended up turning around because there was no end in sight. It was great, and the raptors along the route make for a great visit, but its a long walk in the woods.
3) Its peaceful. We enjoyed going in the morning and are glad we did. It was so peaceful and nice. The raptors were an added bonus.

You will enjoy this place.

We took a late afternoon walk on the boardwalks over the cypress wetlands. Very tranquil with frogs peeping and birds twittering. We took a left to see the raptor rehab "homes" and saw three or more types of owls, two types of hawks, and a great American Eagle. He was huge and was in a mood to talk to my friend. It was an interesting conversation, each one speaking in his/her own language! Ha! It was cool, both literally and figuratively. Boardwalks also provide a safe trail over the cypress wetlands leading to a nice looking pond about 1/2 mile east, so you can get a little over a mile walk if you go to the Golden pond and back.
