Our 4 night stay was one of the best experiences of our many getaways. Every aspect is memorable and you'll want to return again and again. Inis Meain is a magical island and the Restaurants & Suites (only four rooms when we were there but I think more are planned) were a perfect base to explore the windswept beauty. We flew from Galway for a very quick flight on Aer Arann and were greeting by the wonderful Ruairi (and later his wife Marie-Therese). The design immediately appeals and matches the aesthetics of the island. The food is near perfect -- and locally sourced. The island walks are amazing. We hated leaving and wished we had booked for a 6 night stay! It is indeed one of few places we want to return to in order to again experience the raw beauty of the island matched by the pleasure of staying & eating at inis Meain Restaurant & Suites.

Your visit is as much about the island experience as the food itself. Words and photos can't really tell the full story here. The unique setting, warm hospitality, and excellent food mean that this restaurant really is worth the trip.

The setting is exquisite (but then so is the island), and the building itself is really beautiful and sits nicely in its position overlooking the walled fields and sea. A well positioned mirror ensures everyone has a view though.

The food was superb: near-translucent beetroot disks & salad arranged like a beautiful painting of a flower, crab amuse bouche, succulent Gort lamb (I'm not a great lamb fan, but this was really nice) and a rhubarb pudding. Excellent range of wines and even an elderflower cordial that was home-made by Marie-Therese's Mum.

Tips: Fly not ferry; visit the Fort (Dún Chonchúir)
For logistical reasons (no late ferry or plane back!) if you are not staying in the suites, you have to be confirmed as already staying on the island before you can book. If you do hope to stay, suites book out way in advance, so be prepared to be flexible or stay elsewhere!

It was great fun to take the short flight to here from the Galway mainland and spend 4 nights at such a magical place. The hotel is very special; its modern design, which totally aligns with the local geography and environment, is a great beauty in itself and coupled with the rugged beauty of the island, it makes for an ideal location for a break. There's lots to do here; walking, cycling, reading, relaxing or doing absolutely nowt if that's what you want to do. There's also lots of interesting, places, sites and views to enjoy.

However, in the case of hotel stays it's all about the people, which in the case of Inis Meain is its 2 young owners and all their team of people. The service is top quality without being over attentive. Nothing is too much for them.

The dining is a delight with fresh fish everyday and vegetables from the garden and there is an extensive wine list with lots of choice. We have been introduced to Bertha's Gin and Poacher's tonic as well as Midleton's rare Irish whiskey.

The short walk to the one local pub is certainly worth the effort. The Guinness is top class and the curry chips a fond reminder of more youthful times.

Inis Meain Suites and all its people deserve 10 green blobs but we're only allowed to give it 5.

We've already planning our return next year.

We absolutely loved our 4 days here.

Carol & Phil White.

I’d wanted to visit Inis Meain Restaurant and Suites for such a long time and it certainly didn’t disappoint. In fact the place blew me away…..and that wasn’t the wind!

My husband and I travelled from Manchester: A flight to Dublin, in a hire car, a night in Galway and then a very small plane over to the island. It’s certainly takes a bit of time to get to and next time we will definitely stay for 3 nights. But even after two we felt relaxed and refreshed.

On arrival we were met by Ruairi at the very tiny airport, one half of the lovely husband and wife (Marie-Therese) team who have created this very special place. You can tell this is their passion - it shows in everything.

The property itself if made of local stone and at first you wonder how it will blend in, but once you see all the amazing stone walls around the island you realise. Our suite was glorious and came with everything we needed from fresh coffee and milk to wine and beer in the fridge. We loved the whole concept of breakfast in bed when you want. Basically, a discreet breakfast box of goodies is delivered early for you to devour at leisure with whilst taking in the big skies an uninterrupted views. I’ve definitely never stayed anywhere that givens you that 180 degree panorama from your window.

On both days we hiked around the island, furnished with our flask of soup and homemade bread. For such a small island, the 2 walks we did were of a good length and kept us out most of the day. One was a beautiful cliff walk and the other along the stunning beach where we sat for ages just watching seals frolic in the sea. And my husband finished both with a pint of Guinness at the one pub on the island.

Everyone dines at the same time which adds to the atmosphere and you are bound to start talking to one of your fellow guests since there are only 4 suites. But the highlight is the food. Simple local ingredients done well, so you can taste all the flavours, and the most delicious of homemade soda bread. And I loved the fact that the humble vegetable got its own course. Perfection.

This is one of those special places that you will want to return to and we are already planning when. You just need to book early before it gets booked up.

We stayed here for 2 nights and loved the design of the room with its big windows to maximise views of the island. We spent a lot of time sitting at the window just looking out at the sea/lovely scenery. The room was expensive enough per night but the quality of everything is high and they have thought of everything that you would need. The suite is very well equipped with books, crockery/cutlery, fridge, bikes, fishing rods, backpack with lunch etc so caters well to anyone looking to hike or bike round the island. The island is small and you can see it all in 2 days which makes it perfect for a short break.
The food in the restaurant was gorgeous and although simple was very tasty, fresh and again of the highest quality. The atmosphere was very friendly the owners and other staff will do anything they can to help. Overall, it's a beautiful place to stay if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing weekend with great food!
