Excellent hotel in Connemara with a brilliant choice of locally sourced fish and the Sweet Potato soup is top notch. You are really made feel at home with excellent down to earth staff and Tony the owner is an excellent host who has time for everybody. Highly recommended; the Best in the West...

Initially tried to book a B&B in Tully Cross, but the one we wanted was full. However, the owner - Tony - also owns the Maol Reidh Hotel, and offered us rooms there instead. The hotel is small and has a family run feel to it. Tony himself was there to greet us - by name - on arrival. A very friendly atmosphere. Rooms are a little dated, but spotlessly clean, and fully functional. Free WiFi throughout the hotel, and in-room TV had Netflix - a nice touch! Depending on the weather, you may find the rooms somewhat overheated. However, the radiators are easily adjusted, and the windows can be left partially open.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. A special mention to barman/historian/philosopher George, and Aine for whom nothing was a trouble!
We had dinner in the hotel both nights, and food was excellent. You may need a big appetite for the steaks - 12oz! Seafood (hake) and various starters were all beautifully prepared, and perfectly cooked.
The full linen service dining room is beautifully laid out, and service was prompt, helpful, and cheerful. Breakfast menu is extensive, with buffet for the cereals and juices, and table service for the main event! You may not need lunch after this.
It's always a pleasure to visit any hotel, restaurant, bar, where the owner clearly embraces the concept of excellent service, excellent product and friendly atmosphere.
There are two other pubs in this small village - Paddy Coynes (lovely atmosphere and full restaurant facilities) and The Angler's Rest. There are also beautiful thatched cottages available to rent.
A great location as a base to explore this stunningly beautiful part of Ireland.

Connemara must be one of the most scenic spots in the world with a unique landscape, dramatic coast, lakes and mountains. Maol Reidh Hotel is such a comfortable and welcoming place as a base both for relaxing and exploring it all. It’s a charming small hotel, well appointed with great spacious bedrooms. It’s not a place with big hotel frills though great staff make sure you’re missing nothing. A lovely dining room and scrumptious food including the local staples of fresh daily seafood and lamb, beautifully prepared and served. The wine is well chosen too. Looking forward to the next visit. It’s worth adding that the hotel and character local pubs very close at hand seem to have a co-operative outlook and this adds to the scope of a stay in the village.

Stopped off here for a bite to eat. We were met by the owner who gave us the warmest of welcomes. Lovely clean restaurant with lovely atmosphere. Food is top quality. Nicest food in connemara by a long way and very reasonable price. Will definitely be eating there again. Excellent experience, 5 stars.

Just happened upon this jewel of a hotel while driving to Connemara, and the owner, Tony, couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. A modern, immaculate hotel with a charming at-home feel. Enjoyed a pot of tea with chocolate flourless brownies and wanted to move in!!! Stay here on your visit to Connemara...exceptional value, service and comfort!!
