As frequent travellers to Portugal, we were surprised to discover that there is a thriving Portuguese community in St Helier. We are not lovers of the coffee chains but love the café culture in cities like Lisbon, with its delicious pastries always available. So we were delighted to find this no-nonsense establishment near our hotel.
The Portuguese love their coffee so we were confident of getting a decent cup, and we were not disappointed. Two 'galao' accompanied by pasteis de nata were just what we needed in the middle of an afternoon. Excellent coffee for just £1 a cup, with the wonderful, crisp custard tarts for the same price - bliss!
Service was friendly and everyone else in the place seemed to be chatting away in Portuguese. No frills or fancy touches, but a great place to stop off for a coffee.
