“Do you want superb service and excellent comfort?”
Reviewed 2 January 2012

If your answer to the above is yes, then the Longueville Manor on the Island of Jersey is just the place for you. The service and comfort is just what you would expect from a Relais et Chateau establishment. It is expensive, but then you get what you pay for. The restaurant is top class, again expensive but up to Michelin Star standard. My wife has many food allergies which they coped with admirably. We arrived late in the evening, but had warned them about this and an excellent light meal was awaiting us. For a special anniversary or a loving tryst, give it a try. You'll want to make it a regular on your list of places to stay for a few days.

This was a wonderful anniversary present from our family. We had a beautiful evening, the best evening meal we have ever had, the room was lovely and the breakfast was also incredible, tried though I did I could not eat everything that I wanted, it was just physically impossible. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and I loved that on arrival, at which time it was already dark, the outside was lit up with candles, it was so beautiful and romantic. My husband and I hope to stay again some day.

Excellent hotel which sets and maintains very high standards. The staff are attentive yet discreet, the ambience relaxed, welcoming and very homely, the food superb, the wine list extensive and the rooms luxurious.

Local produce is used whenever possible and the excellent Executive Chef (Andrew Baird) is involved in deciding what is grown in the hotel's Victorian kitchen garden.

If you want more than a relaxing time there is an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and lovely walks in the hotel gardens or nearby.

Room Tip: All are good, we stayed in room 26 which was excellent

Just returned from a 4 day pre-Christmas break in Jersey. We booked the 'Celebration Package' at Longueville Manor Hotel based on the excellent reviews we has read about the hotel. Well, we were certainly not disappointed!

We arrived in the pouring rain to discover we had been upgraded to the Tower suite. We discovered a beautiful Christmas tree in our lounge when we were shown the suite, along with a bottle of fizz and accompanying chocolates ... and a surprise gift! The lounge was very cosy and comfortable. The bathroom was heavenly - candle was a nice touch. The bed was massive and there was a turn down service each evening.

We ate in the restaurant for 2 evenings and really, really enjoyed the 7 course inclusive dinner. We were apprehansive beforehand as we had never done this type of thing before but it was wonderful and the staff ensured we were given sufficient time in between courses. The different wine served with each course was also a treat. The cooked English breakfast each morning was amongst the best we have ever had anywhere and again the service was excellent.

My only slight criticism was that tea and coffee facilities are not available in the room - you have to phone for a tray to be brought to you. And the hotel was very hot (probably more noticeable due to the mild temperature whilst we were in Jersey).

All in all, a wonderful, romantic hotel with attentive staff, fantastic decor, great accommodation/facilities and outstanding food. Would love to return!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter, ask for a room with doors opening out onto the gardens.

We booked a late trip to Jersey in order to have a 'babymoon' (a last trip away before the baby arrives for those not aware of this fantastic excuse for a holiday!). We couldn't have picked a better location, or hotel. From the moment we were met in the car park and had our bags taken in, we knew we were going to be well looked after. We have been lucky enough to stay in quite a lot of hotels around the world, though admittedly none have been 5*. However, the service element is clearly where the difference is made. We were very well looked after throughout our stay - from upgrading our room (thank you!), to the delicious breakfast feast we indulged ourselves in each morning. Our room was spacious, really comfortable, and very grand. It was one of those places where we knew we didn't belong, but wasn't at all pretentious so as to make us feel that we didn't belong!

Jersey was a great destination for pottering around and there was enough to see and do in the 4 nights we spent there. The mild November weather really helped too, as did having a hire car.

I'd love to say that we will be returning very soon, but that might not be for at least the next 18 years unless we get some kind offers from babysitters!

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the car park, so with the windows open you could hear a little road noise, but i...

My wife and I chose this hotel for a short break to celebrate my "significant" birthday in October having read the reports on Tripadvisor. We had not been to Jersey for many years and thought it would make a change from our usual destinations in southern Europe. I must say it is the finest hotel we have stayed in; true 5 star quality.

We had booked a standard room and were surprised and delighted to be informed on arrival that we had been up graded to a suite. This was the Longueville Suite and it was truly magnificent, sheer quality! There was champagne waiting for us and the largest, tallest, most comfortable four poster bed we had ever seen, incredible! The bathroom was amazing, it even had a small TV built into the wall and a waterproof remote control. The shower was without doubt the best we have ever used.

You own tea making facilities are available upon request at no extra charge and lovely shortbread biscuits are supplied. It was very nice to come back late afternoon after a day exploring Jersey and have cup of tea and catch up with the news on the huge flat screen TV. It felt very homely; we felt we could move in permanently!!

The staff were all excellent, extremely courteous and made you feel that you were their very special guest with none of the slightly snooty attitudes that can be prevalent in some up market hotels.

There is no “corporate bling” about this hotel, it is true old world English Country House style and quality with quality staff to match.

The food was excellent, expensive, yes, but served beautifully in beautiful surroundings. The breakfasts particularly were fabulous and even just watching the way the staff went about their business in such a professional, attentive yet non intrusive manner was a pleasure.

We did not eat in the hotel every night as we wished to have more varied evenings. It is a 15 minute drive into Gorey which is very pleasant with a good selection of restaurants and we would recommend this rather than going to St Helier which can be a bit of a nightmare to find your way around and park without a sat nav!!

We would definitely return; the upgrade to the suite was wonderful but we did ask to have look at some of the other rooms before we left in case we are not quite so lucky next time and we were very impressed with the overall standard.

Room Tip: Book the Longueville suite if you can afford it, you won't be disappointed!!

On arrival I drove up to the main entrance over a carpet of Horse Chestnuts!! which was a bit disappointing for a 5 star hotel – in fact during our stay I only saw someone clearing them up once and all he did was blow them around with a garden Vac; its not as if their falling is an unexpected event and I would have expected them to be cleared away daily.
Our greeting was excellent but the Valet who offered to park our car came back and asked me to do it as he was nervous of driving such a big and new car!! My car was new and it is big, but the car park is smaller than a tennis court so I was very surprised at this. We were then shown to our room which overlooked the front car park, the window of which you can see in the official hotel photograph. I was disappointed by this as we had reserved a Deluxe room, which according to their website description should have had either a garden or pool outlook. I complained and was told that this was a mistake on the website but I could change my room the next day.
The room we were shown to the following day was superb with a good sized en-suite containing a big bath and shower and staff moved all our clothes etc for us. This room did enjoy a lovely garden and pool outlook – however the Hotel website still says that all deluxe rooms have garden/pool outlooks.
The overall décor of the rooms was in very good taste however it looked a little tired and in need of being refreshed.
Eating in the hotel is a very enjoyable gastronomic experience with much of the food being grown or made on site, however the lounge area where you can have a drink prior to eating and the restaurant itself lacked atmosphere; some background music would have done a lot to prevent the sometimes dentist waiting room feeling that was occasionally present when you felt that everyone could here you talking and made you feel uncomfortable.
On walking through the grounds and the pool area it was obviously a place where you could relax, but all tables and sun loungers were wooden and untreated which left them with that silver fox colour and a texture that looked as if it would give you splinters. This gave them an uncared for look which again was something that I would not expect from a 5 star hotel.
This Hotel that is obviously the best in Jersey, a fact reinforced by the look that everyone on the Island gives you when you say that you are staying there, which makes you feel a little special and also embarrassed. However I think that the fact that there is no other Hotel on the Island that can compete with Longueville, has led to a degree of complacency, which is supported by the fact that the mistake over the room description is still on their website. This attitude needs to be addressed and I hope that it is as I would like to go there again when I am next in Jersey.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have the best views
