“Great lodge right by the ocean.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

This lodge is situated right on the oceanfront on a cliff. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Some wonderful cliff walks and hiking trails start from the lodge. We thought given the clean and comfortable rooms and full breakfast it was quite fairly priced. We had a garden view room and it was perfectly fine and private.

Once again Richard and Ida have proved to be what they always have been to us,hosts most valuable. The porridge is the same delight which is the same as the service. They will bend over backwards to help you and try to make a special occasion SPECIAL.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are comfortable.

Situated a stoned throw from the beautifully rugged "dartmoor touched the sea" coast line, the undercliff was a really great. Staff were all really friendly. Breakfast was great. Great idea having full English as a paid extra rather than having to pay for it if you only fancy toast. Lots of tea and coffee in room and rooms cleaned every day. Free wifi in all rooms. Had a few drop out issues but this is due to the really fabulous solid stone walls and there isnt much that anyone could do about that. A wonderful experience for my colleague and I who were working away from home for a week.

Where do we start? Ignore all the reviewers rating this as 'poor' etc. OK, they're entitled to their view, but really....they should go and stay in a 5 star at £200 a night and then their silly niggles might be 'justified'. For the rest of us on Planet Real, let me tell you, you will not find two more friendly, attentive owners than Richard & Ida. Rooms are spotless, fresh-smelling linen and soft fluffy towels, free toileteries etc. Breakfast (especially porridge) is to die for with proper coffee provided in a 5 cup cafetiere. Location in north east of the island is very peaceful. We were given a free later check-out by 1 hour and honestly, had no complaints. By all means pay double in some 3 star hotel in St Helier with inadequate car park and receive expressionless 'customer service' or come here and be delighted. Thank you for a great stay and we hope to be back soon.

We stayed at the Undercliff and were charmed. Such a lovely peaceful place. Richard and Ida are lovely people and made us feel wonderfully welcome. The fact that evening meals were not available was of no consequence as there is a great little pub (The Black Dog) 150 yards round the corner that does lovely bar meals. Breakfast at the Undercliff is superb. Spoilt for choice. Loved breakfast time.
Were were looking for somewhere tranquil and the Undercliff is just that. Only one concern... The carpet runner in the hallway should run the entire length. My own shoes made quite a noise on the wooden floor and I tippy toed up and down just in case I disturbed anyone in room 2. My partner Ann and I had a wonderful break even without the car. We won't be taking the car next time either. The bus service was frequent enough for what we wanted. None on a Sunday though. That didn't bother us in the slightest. We just planned our cliff path walk for that day. The bus drivers were brilliant and dropped us off at the Undercliff if they were on the route down to Bouley Bay. Last bus from St Hellier was 6.45 and stops at the Black Dog so no complaints from us on that score. All in all... A wonderfully relaxing stay and we will most definitely be booking again. We highly recommend the Undercliff if you want a nice quiet, relaxing stay. You will come away feeling refreshed and recharged. Thank you Richard and Ida for a wonderful stay.

The place is truly brilliant.Situated in Bouley Bay it is absolutely ideal for people who would like to steer clear of the hustle and bustle of St. Helier. The rooms are spic and span and are cleaned every day as would be expected.
For walkers this is again ideal as you can set off in any direction along the costal walk paths and see absolutely brilliant views of the french coastline.
The black Dog bar a short walk away provides some great pub dinners and hence its great even for people who havent hired a car for their stay.
The bus routes connect the island really well and hence one can get to town easily if really need be.
Overall we had a great stay and received excellent service from the couple running the place.
