“Fantastic stay”
Reviewed August 25, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Travelled with hubbie, 12 and 8 year old girls and dog. We wanted a dog holiday and this was the perfect place. Beautiful cottage, homely, spacious, girls loved their bedroom, dog loved the grounds, safe enclosed paddock and extensive grounds to explore. Owners very welcoming. Dog was welcome everywhere we went and Chagford has some lovely pubs and tea shops. Girls loved seeing the animals wandering freely over the moors. We also enjoyed the Chagford show which was on whilst we were there. The House of Marbles was a hit with the girls as well where they also enjoyed watching the glass blowing. Definitely recommend this place.

“Outstanding and unusual property in a stunning setting on the edge of Dartmoor.”
Reviewed April 9, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Thought long and hard about making this review in case we miss out on repeat bookings but since returning yesterday we have booked to go back again twice this year. Having holidayed in the Chagford area for 20 years in numerous properties Down Cottage is unigue; just a 35 minute stroll to the square for coffee and the morning paper or half an hour to Fernworthty Reservoir or to the moor - the setting is perfect. Its not a cottage but more of an elegant Edwardian hideaway furnished with comfortable modern sofas in the sitting room and elegant antique wing back chairs in the dining room. Feeling too tired to yomp down to the Teign Valley and Fingle Bridge no problem, this property has its own mini Teign Valley; over 10 acres of amazing gardens with moss covered boulders, rock pools - a paddlers paradise or ideal for a quiet read by a babbling brook.

“Lovely secluded Cottage set in beautiful grounds.”
Reviewed March 16, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

This was our third visit to Down Cottage. It is a set in the grounds of a lovely house originally built by the Jameson Whisky family. The current owners having lovingly refurbished the entire property including returning the grounds to their original state. The house is about five to ten minutes west of Chagford and within a short distance of the lovely Tor - Kestor. Down Cottage itself is traditionally and comfortably furnished and is a great place to relax after tramping the Moors or doing the area sites. If you are looking for a base to explore Dartmoor and enjoy peace and quiet at the end of the day this property will suit you.
