This site has it all. Ok you want more?
We visited in August for a week. The weather wasn’t great and mostly rained. Our pitch was on a hill so all the rain water from the vans above ran to the grass at the side of our van and it was like a bog all week. The hardstanding areas are good but it’s a shame the awning areas are not hardcore for this reason. I suppose all the grass looks great but we had to bin out groundsheet on our return as it was ruined.

The site itself is beautiful with flower tubs and borders that would put the Chelsea flower show to shame. They really did look amazing. Our shower block was always spotless, cleaners would clean in the mornings but would also whizz through at busy times, mopping the floor and flushing unflushed toilets. Toilets blocks were big for all the vans they supplied, my only gripe is there was hardly any room in the showers. As a parent of young children who can’t shower themselves yet it was a military operation trying to squeeze two in.

The only other issue was phone signal. Each evening you would find a row of cars at the top of the drive to the site (it sits in a valley) on their phones ringing people. If you want to make a call on site - forget it. Wi-Fi was free but our field worked only for an hour most days even when I complained to reception (where I had no trouble with connection but was locked!).

The swimming pool was a pleasant surprise and great for wet weather (if a little cramped as we all had the same idea). Entertainment with the birds of prey chap and the farmer with his sheep dog and ducks also went down a storm with my little ones. We didn’t use the bar or clubs so can’t comment on those, but the shop was well stocked and the caravan spares shop also handy as we needed a few things for our van.

All in all, a superb site.

I have been visiting Stowford for many years. The facilities are great. There is lots of extra things to do and this is a vast site, but feels quite small and personal, due to the way it's laid out.

They sell caravan and VW T5s and T6s. These are great to look at.

Certainly worth a visit.

We spent the last weekend at Stowford. Having had good reviews we were looking forward to our stay.

However...

The grass pitches were waterlogged (there was no warning of this at reception). By the time we left our pitch was a quagmire and our awning and carpet were caked in mud. We had to carry our children into the caravan from the road - a situation made worse by the "rules" for pitching meaning that the awning was a good distance across the sodden turf. The car was even further away.

Yes there is a lot of entertainment on site but expect to pay for it. Every activity is £2. Each. That stacks up quickly.

The pool (yep, another £2 each...) is nice, very warm but no lifeguards and a lot of rules. The local swimming club also get preferential treatment, esp. on Saturday mornings.

The on-site camping shop is ok but not cheap.

The on-site convenience store isn't great. I tried to buy gas but the poor guy on the counter was struggling to the extent that I had to give up.

The food in the restaurant was ok but no better than that. At £10 per main course it's a bit steep. Service is laughably bad.

The woodland walk is great, if not a little confusing in terms of navigation.

There is nothing locally if any interest. Coombe Martin is 20 minute drive away although it is lovely once you've got there.

Overall, the site is fine (provided that you avoid a grass pitch) but there are much better places to stay locally. Stay here if a swimming pool is a must, but otherwise I recommend trying elsewhere.

Thank you for your comments. Yes due to a rainy summer some of our pitches were wet and muddy, unfortunately we can't help this but we can always offer a change of pitch or help you pitch up if needed.
Things like the swimming pool, pitch and putt, crazy golf and Petorama are an extra charge - this is well publicised on our website and in our brochure.
All your other points have been noted, but we would strongly disagree with the comment that there is nothing locally of any interest!

Nice clean site immaculate shower/toilet blocks. A few little things that let it down for me. Pleasantly surprised on arrival that there was free wi-fi and we were located very close to one of masts. Unfortunately it didn't work for time of our stay. Our pitch despite being on an incline was very muddy. Disappointed that evening entertainment in bar had finished for the season despite another week of school holidays remaining and other facilities were found to be closed early or opened late. Would still recommend and will be returning.

Great site with lots of facilities and plenty of things to do on site and nearby. Lovely people who helped with a blown out tyre on the caravan- all sorted in an hour on the Saturday morning!! We would definitely return.
