“Wife's Birthday”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

We came back to Morton's House for my wife's special birthday treat and can only once again say that our few days away before Christmas were relaxing and pleasurable at all times. My wife even had a massage arranged by the staff. The food was wonderful, the service excellent and the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
Special thanks to Barbara and Sue who kept our room and the hotel spotless.
We shall keep on coming back again and again.

This was a hotel we stayed in prior to a wedding in August 2011 - my husband, myself and our daughter's aged 7 and 5. We stayed 2 nights in their Loft room - a double and sofabedded room which are situated up their own little staircase so sort of interconnecting. They have their own lockable doors but you cannot leave the rooms secure if leaving the doors open (which we had to as our children are too young to be locked into a room!!). This wasn't too big a deal but worth a mention. On arrival the hotel looks grand and gorgeous - but up close is a bit tired and the decor a little dated really. The room had lovely castle views from the velux windows but the room had quite bad street noise from one room and kitchen noise from the other!! The blinds are about 2 inches too short too so blocking out light in the children's room was done with cushions each night..... Nice enough though with decent amounts of storage.
The hotel itself is lovely. The restaurant really nice and staff excellent - breakfasts are huge and delicious and a varied choice each day. The bar snacks are lovely and house wine sensibly priced. Nice area outside to sit in the sun and watch hill walkers go by!!
No complaints at all with the service or what was available food wise!!
Fantastic central location with an easy walk to the steam train and castle and village shops too make it a great (if a little pricey) holiday base.
N.B. The actual main hotel rooms offer nice castle views from most rooms - the garden rooms do not so if you want castle views ask for the main rooms : )

We have just returned from a Christmas break at Mortons House hotel, and will certainly return. This was our first ever Christmas away from family and we were in need of a complete break. This hotel was just what we needed. The food was amazing, the staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating, and the room was very comfortable and clean. We had requested a quiet room on booking and had a very pleasant room overlooking the terrace area, and were not disturbed at all in spite of a full hotel. The lounge area with enormous log fire was very cosy and relaxing. We had some lovely walks around a very picturesque area and came home very much more relaxed than we went.

after literally stumbling across this place one day some years ago my wife and i became almost weekly regulars and yes it is very good but it has slipped a little recently and we have not been for a while now - only had one meal there that we thought was awful and that on christmas day 2010. a real shame as we had really bigged it up and it was frankly worse than an average Harvester for 5 times the price.
we dont seek it out now but wouldnt miss it out for a future visit ,on a busy road it is very quiet and serene inside the walls - eat in the courtyard on a summers day and its delightful or in the cosy dining room during the winter - it wont disappoint ,its just that we have known it for a long time and have known it better

we stumbled on this place by accident online on christmas day.we had flown back early from a holiday nightmare in the maldives and didnt want to be at home.we were given the most warm welcombe after travelling for almost 24hours it was wonderful to feel so important.the staff are fantastic ,very frendly with nothing to much trouble, rooms are comfortable and the overal setting is lovely.its a quiet place were you can realy unwind, even down to the fact that there is no noisey background music.the food gives any top class resterant a run for its money.our only one regret is that we didnt have time to stay longer, but we are already planning to go back.

We were a party of 18 ranging in ages from 10 years old to 90 year old.! We stayed 2 nights and were made to feel so welcome and all the staff were so accommodating - and nothing was too much trouble, from dealing with our ever changing seating plan at birthday dinner to dealing with endless queries about where and when. The rooms were perfect and we liked the atmosphere of the place, it is warm, friendly, welcoming and personal., which is certainly not always the case in more luxurious hotels. Granny (90) had a whale of a time.
Great walks along the coast at Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Studland Bay. Great pub - The Square & Compass at Worth Matravers for lunch.
